> People who post on Reddit are very often just completely wrong, and often that wrongness becomes a meme (in the original sense of the word) that propagates through the site for literally years. Isn't that just a microcosm of the i

Will you ever worry about thread safety for these values? If not, then as others have mentioned, a `config` module seems like what you want.

Dataclasses wind up cumbersome over time. They're nice when the defaults are what you want. After a handful of default overrides, I'd rather have not used dataclasses.

The expressivity gain depends on what you're left with without the feature. It was hard for me to imagine where the previous comment draws the line around iterators and generators. An optimizing compiler would need to know what action

Fundamentally? No, it's all just machine language in the end. Practically? Yes, generators are often more memory-efficient, and thereby often more compute-efficient.

We don't need to create the universe to bake an apple pie from scratch. I agree that a history of the suburbs might begin before WWII, but the general concept of needing to start at the beginning is a slippery slope. I'd say nea

But I think the modern suburbs (in the USA) were more of a "white flight" phenomenon, enabled by cheaper construction methods and perhaps a confluence of a few other post-war trends/policies.

Thus my point about how ambiguous "in the city" is.

Depends what "in a city" means. Some people might say I live in the 'burbs, but my postal address still has the city's name in it.

Sounds like any bureaucracy. The government doesn't have a monopoly on inefficiency.

There's some speculation that ByteDance is motivated by political goals as well as, or more than, profit.

Sure, but that's not what I think of when hearing "permit".

That's what I thought about "permit" and "stand for it".

That's also vague. Do you mean that if the person does what you don't permit, you would leave the relationship?

I guess that's the big question. Market behavior certainly can look like there are speculative bubbles, but Fama hypothesizes a different interpretation of the evidence. I'm not a believer, but there is some value in the thought.

Those are inconsistent beliefs, if we're talking about Eugene Fama's hypothesis.

I interpreted "trivial" as negligible, too small to cut from the budget, even in a crunch. I see you're using a different definition. However, I also think that $40k per year is a perpetual budget crunch, so not really a cr

How about tactical choices like which players to put in which positions, who to guard whom or which zone, etc.? These choices are often made before the game and may only have effects towards the end, when the speed difference between two p
