Reminds me how Sports Tracker (and really most apps) got wonky every time my phone battery got below 15% and got into aggressive power savings (and no amount of convincing would convince Android to fuck off). Kinda smells like something sim

Tradition was a mean to preserve knowledge over decades, I don't think it's relevant now where we can actually do that directly and also attach the research about whether it works, how it works, and how to employ a given technique

We had 2 in our office closet datacenter and they definitely needed more maintenance than what I remember our coal burning furnace did

Pedantic and wrong, good fucking luck saturating whole SSD from single thread on anything else than pure benchmark code

So, go to moon. No real need to go to another planet just to irradiate some astronauts and in case shit hits the fan they have chance of surviving

I mean, I get limiting it if you only need it rarely and multitool with some bits can get you thru a lot, but nothing ? I guess it is choosing to be useless at life on purpose...

Do you remember numbers ? I'd guess somewhere in 0.5-1% THD range for simple single opamp servo ? I was kinda mildly interested into doing it for sensors altho just microprocessor blasting serial via optocoupler onto other side seems l

It does but it's always easier if you allocate/deallocate big blocks. Especially if you just put sub-block-size data on disk

At that point you might as well put a code interpreter in your scheduler that just gets current date and returns next data of event, because whole code to cover that would take more code than cron itself.

Someone did test exactly that: https://panthema.net/2019/0322-nvme-batched-block-access-spe... From my experience as long as you can do that access multithreaded you won't really be penalized for random reads. S

If you're writing on SATA SSD, yes. If you're writing on NVMe, well, there is a good chance that if you're not at the high end (big site, a lot of things to do), you can just ignore that as the IOPS will be "good enough&

Config files are far preferable to some random database dug somewhere in registry of DE blob of stuff. Because you can make a simple program that just "does the right thing" for user then include it in distro

Unironically diode-to-photoresistor optocouplers are used in some compressors and filters to get that soft analoguey sound (as they are plain slow to react to signal). Which is kinda a supply problem as material they were made with was bann
