I'm blown away with how good they seem to work. I was about to buy a Lenovo x86 laptop on Black Friday but put it on hold. I presumed M1 was going to be like a Surface X. With Ryzen laptop chips slowly arriving too, next year should be

I get that with every project though, the first 90% takes 10% of the time and is the most enjoyable.

Actually I learned a lot from doing leetcode problems then comparing my results with others, esp ones that were much quicker.

I've always wanted to do this but do you run IDE on laptop or XWindows/VNC/RDP? Also big screen laptops now are more expensive than smaller ones which is the opposite of 10 years ago.

First is to compare yourself to normal non-technical people. You know a lot more than a regular guy on the street, you are a completely specialist compared to them. Secondly if you just different domains and languages over 20 years (like me

I don't really like the article, but to me there is a problem and it isn't just teenagers but adults as well, everywhere you go people are just mindlessly phone out and scrolling. Games are sucking a bunch of time as well. Quarant

I'd think the opposite. When I'm physically with people I can form groups, picket offices, go on strike. If I'm a remote worker I'm much more easily replaced and there isn't much I can do about it.

Forget Syria, Canada is a better example. Canadians earn a fraction of US salaries despite some expensive COL in Vancouver and Toronto.

Median salary globally is around USD $10k, so for remote work presumably everyone's salaries should be similar. Given developers are high skilled and in demand, maybe they should be paid 3x the global median so $30k per year.

$49/mo isn't cheap though, you can buy an awful lot of books for that money directly.

If you're good at getting things done you just get more BS work. The most successful people I know do the bare minimum of regular work and concentrate on doing what they really want.

Like many I've been burnt by this problem. I have a rule now where no certificate should ever be within 6 months of expiry, ideally we should renew every month.

I like ansible as its a great way to run simple deploys in parallel. However as things get more complicated I'm just distributing bash or python scripts to run on each machine. It makes sense to me but I feel I'm doing it wrong.

That is a few extra days for one task. 6 months later you'll still be training the person, though the overhead will still be lower it still will be slower than doing it yourself. Then the person might leave and you start all over again
