Technically it's not just the Roman Empire. The Roman empire was just an instance.

We're all troubled. The empire never ended.

Why? Corporation can decimate their workforce in the search for better earnings but god forbid the drones speak up.

Why? Why do we feel the need to protect people that are bad at what they do? Maybe this was something that applied in the "good old times" but nowadays since anything goes for corpos the same should go for drones.

They were thinking about money. There you go. Seeing what you build crumble is not pleasant when this means you are financially impacted.

Microsoft preparing to print the money used to pay OpenAI employees! Is this even journalism?

The point was thay even Twitter cannot do this, so there is absolutely no reason to expect openai to be able to pull it off.

Yeah, that's fine and probably a bit easier to transfer, but it's still not a 100% sure thing and trivial to do.

Twitter does not run on a skeleton crew, it's spiraling out of control and into irrelevance.

Transfering? Yes, it's possible. But it's not trivial and, post trump immigration bs, there is a real possibility transfer will not go through. Also usually this takes a few weeks/months.

The more time passes the more these headlines look like PR/propaganda. Expecting the headlines that tell us that 125% of OpenAI employees threaten to walk. Just quit already and go work for Microsoft.

most people working at openai are subject to the same harsh market conditions everyone is. also, do you really care that the CEO was fired as long as you are getting payed what it was agreed upon when you got hired and you are doing interes

In theory yes fully agree. If you look at how corporations are behaving in today's market it's not even close. It's at will employment (At least in US in most places) - you are not owed an explanation and you don't owe a

hah. these people obviously have not worked for Microsoft. You need to remember why this tech emerged in a place like OpenAI and not MS or Google. The structure and the politics of a big corporation are not conducive to cutting edge tech. T

It depends. If you are seeing your job more than just a means to an ends maybe. If you see it as transactional and you need the company to stay in business while you work there why would you bother looking for a new job?

the question I have is: how much of this is really happening and how much of this is a narrative fabricated to match a desired outcome by the side with the best PR? It's really hard to understand now and we will probably learn way more

no disagreement here. but the reality is that employees are treated like garbage all the time. yes it is dumb. yes it leads to losing employees. yes, it should not be normalized.

do you believe they will be fine if nobody leaves? can this be business as usual moving forward? also if I learned anything over the years is that "threatening to quit" != "quitting".

Title says: OpenAI's employees were given two explanations for why Sam Altman was fired. They're unconvinced and furious. Some breaking news: An employer does not owe you an explanation. You exchange money for labor. If anyone thi

it sort of does. a coup is usually regarded as a bad thing. firing a ceo? not so much. pushing to call it a coup is an attempt to control the narrative.
