I'd say it's less to do with kindness and more along the lines of a VC who invests in a hand full of startups. If you train a certain amount of beginners, you'll likely turn out a few high value engineers. A few really strong

Which is an oddly pervasive mistake! I had a coworker once assume since I knew Ruby the language, that I'd be completely comfortable with Ruby on Rails' Active Record system.

I would say that the idea is you pay for those things. Sadly however a lot of Universities put together programs for the sole purpose of offering that program. Often times CS programs (like the ones at my University) are put together for th

While the arrest may or may not be unjust, the fact of the matter is that she broke the law. Which typically results in police showing up. Regardless of your attitude about what she did, the title can be really boiled down to 'data sci

Don't forget that in the initial source-code, Yarvin called the planets and moons, dukes and earls. To me, that's a pretty clear indicator that feudalism was on his mind at the time of developing the software.

Michael1999 does a far better job summarizing this than I did. They've replied to the parent comment to this thread.

There's a lot to be said for separating the art from the artist (Heidegger always comes to mind). That being said, if the art is an expression of the ideas that are considered reprehensible, then it becomes much harder. With the exampl

If I recall correctly, the entire point of Urbit's design philosophy was to demo the neo-cameralist ideology that Curtis Yarvin came up with. While the poster above is taking flack, I'd argue that, at this point, there's no w

High school was 5 years in some parts of Canada for a while. Then it was truncated to 4 with the same material being delivered, just compressed.

If I recall, weev was released after the conviction was vacated. Looks like the reason is that the violation was revisited and determined to be insufficient for the conviction. I do, however, also recall weev saying how he spent most of his

I can definitely relate, except not for the gym type of goals, rather academic goals. I was studying STEM to be a researcher initially. I sunk pretty much every minute of my time into trying to achieve that. Despite this, I just could not g

That's not something I'm really equipped to comment on all that much. My role was mostly as a software developer, less a data scientist. I can talk about how to improve the statistical power of the data you are using though, since

I think it definitely has its uses. Is it an effective drop in replacement for sensitive data in all scenarios? I never really got that impression. My biggest takeaway was that it is excellent for development and early refinement. Having ac

Interesting for sure, I actually contributed to developing tools for making synthetic data recently. This Python module => [redacted] is what we developed. We ended up hitting a snag with our initial research as scaled synthetic data gen
