Does anyone know what this program is written in. Just out of curiosity, it looks like it's something custom, does not use default widgets on OSX. It does not look like Java, I think it's all HTML5. Just wondering.

If the UI module does encryption and decryption, and if the said encryption is good enough, why would you care if the transport layer steals your encrypted data?

Ok, instruct is probably a bad term, I know what you mean. What Apple can do is promise to indemnify the individual developer for any out of pocket expenses above and beyond the initial settlement offer, as long as the developer chooses to

"Cooperating apps" is the key here, I think. I think it's idiotic that iPad is yet to have some semblance of an operating system.

What I find worrisome is that these UI ideas are bleeding over into OSX. Take a look at the new Build Phases tab in Xcode. It used to be nice and clear, now it's just a see of white, and it's hard to visually see how different ele

I was going to argue with your statements but than I turned the screen in my phone off and realized that the front part of the screen is covered with my thumb prints, and they are ripe for photographing.

The problem is, the software patents don't really explain implementation, they simply describe it. Take the scan and email button patent. It presented no implementation at all, in fact the original "inventor" never actually m

Why on earth is this on the front page of hacker news. I understand that HN is not all about tech, and interesting articles of all kinds should percolate up. But why is this at the very top for so long. It's about Internet hate, and we

This is the best solution I have heard yet! I wish this would get implemented. For now, a public wiki like system to which anyone could submit claims made against them for patent infringements in order to find others in the same situation,

Even so, of you assume that average person knows 20k words but would only use about 2,000 words in day to day life, and thus in his or her password. That still means that at one billion passwords per second (which is completely unrealistic,

I wish the RT screen was as good as the pro. Played with it yesterday and it was great. Not as good as iPad, but so good that I think most people, including me, would not care. And I think the Windows 8 os is just marvelous, I just wish the

The best human rememberable password is 4-5 words from a dictionary + a special character. Assuming that most people have roughly 20k words vocabulary and that most keyboards can type easily say 60 characters, you get 20,000^4 60 or 9.6 10^

Lumia 1020 has very slow shot-to-shot and start times. On iPhone 5 I can start the camera app and shoot 9 images in 10 seconds. Just did it. On 1020 you might get 3 shots of in the same time. But the key is the time to first shot. On iPhone
