You still need something else to manage your python versions and virtualenvs tho, and then as soon as you've pick a solution for the latter two problems, chances are you'll discover these tools also have a lock files that'll

Poetry is good, I'll hit a bug in poetry from time to time but it's improving quickly. Direnv is better, direnv layout will automatically create a hidden virtualenv directory on your work tree and sets up your path when you cd int

What I'm saying is, at this point, Europe has lost the competition on so many waves of technological disruptions, there's simply no hope. The only thing Europe can do to gain back some international negotiating power is to invest

Speaking of cherry-picking. Which European fab is ASML selling to? Being able to manufacture one machine for one stage of the process doesn't make an industry. Europe has some great niche companies, but has a real problem fostering an

Proper generics would be parametric polymorphism with full program type inference, i.e. an ML derivative.

I only expected a CS professor to discover some of issues listed here: https://go101.org/generics/888-the-status-quo-of-go-custom-g... I mean, my cousin still in high school can do better than that...

The title says Go generics are not bad, and then in less than a page this guy only compared one use case with Java's generics. I'd expect a CS professor to be able to add a little more rigor in a blog post but I guess everyone is

A nation state has more than one way of extracting information from enemies of said state. There's the civilized way we now call hacking, and then there's the traditional way, which may or may not involve technology.

What's so inadequate? When you deploy, your CI/CD pipeline and production don't run on the apt/dnf versions of the language runtime?

Yes there is, but may not be granular enough to the patch level, they usually end at the major or minor level. But then again, I've never ran into or heard of anyone that needs a very specific semver of a language runtime for a project

Just install them with Homebrew or Macports. They all get installed into different paths anyway and you don't even need to build from source on your system. Building python and node are major PATA.

Configuration is a necessity for any tooling. Direnv is something you likely already use with dotenv anyway to configure your CI/CD pipelines. All you need to do is to drop in a few more extra environment variables into your git worktr

asdf is not a replacement for pyenv, rbenv, goenv and nvm, it's yet another abstraction on top of them. Nvm is a fork of rbenv for node, and pyenv is a fork of rbenv for python, the core of all of these asdf plugins are exactly ruby-bu
