This is like saying we’ve had the Internet a lot longer than we’ve had social media addiction. Obesity rates started rising with the introduction of drive-in food, which wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for car culture.

Miles driven per capita would be a better comparison. Americans drive more than any other country. https://www.thecarcrashdetective.com/americans-drive-more-dy...

No. 77% of soy is fed to livestock. https://ourworldindata.org/soy Japan has one of the highest rates of soy consumption in the world and they also have some of the least obesity and the longest lifespans so I fail to see h

I can’t help but think of course Andreeson wants us to build. The man’s a venture capitalist and has a lot to gain when other people build things.

I listened to that episode too. Not sure if he’s out of touch or simply only cares about his own agenda. Certainly freaked me out a little when he was speaking fondly of what I would describe as the cryptocurrency dystopia.

I don’t see either of your sources showing public transit is more fuel intensive than a car. The first report assumes 2.2 people in a car which I don’t think is an actual average and a greyhound bus was 4x more efficient than the car.

Cheaper housing and better social programs together would be great.

Neither the impossible or beyond burgers use hydrogenated oils. The beyond burger doesn’t use soy protein.

“Go to work or go to jail” is antithetical in a country that emphasizes freedom. They probably don’t want to work cuz working low wage jobs is a shit experience and are one bad day from losing their job and becoming houseless again.

I think your being pedantic. Dogma is fine usage. They argued that Apple isn’t a privacy-focused company because they store our data on their servers, while the bar for companies to protect our data is so low it’s a tripping hazard.

I think this dogmatic take is pretty useless. For the vast majority of people icloud is a QoL increase that is worth not “owning” our data. All Apple does with our data is keep it safe (CSAM not included), but I would love to be proven wron

A VR interview isn’t that different from a video interview when compared to an in person one. My concern is this reads like an applicant must have a vr headset to be eligible for interview.

I learned the word for this recently is called Embourgeoisement. It’s at least a very similar phenomenon. [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embourgeoisement

Except investors are buying more housing than is being built. Also, car companies are more than happy to lease their vehicles, but people would prefer to own.

Your post does nothing to negate the fact than many, many people fall under the definition of a wage slave. Private property doesn’t exist in nature.

Too many people live paycheck to paycheck to have the freedom to quit their jobs to find something else. Also, Uber isn’t making a lot of money. They have been hemorrhaging VC for years and aren’t making any profits.

Our societal system does hold proverbial guns to peoples heads to force them to work. We all need money to pay rent, eat, take care of our families and our health, etc. That money has to come from working (or inheritance if one’s lucky).
