https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1014267515696922624.html I hate Twitter threads too. I think this site does a nice job of pulling them together, and looks cleaner than nitter since it doesn't make each tweet lo

Further, it's just a random FB page with only a couple hundred followers. The actual antifa symbol is completely different.

The last time I looked into OpenWRT/DD-WRT (years ago), it seemed disadvantageous to switch to them because they would be slower than stock firmware due to missing some kind of hardware support. Is this still the case these days? EDIT:

My takeaway from the NYT article[0] was that Sweden's approach to coronavirus hasn't left them totally overwhelmed primarily because Swedes willingly self-lockdowned and distanced almost as much as people under government-mandated

I personally know 2 people, a healthcare (non-COVID) worker and an architect, who've had salaries cut about 20% as well. Still anecdata, of course, but throwing it onto the pile.

I think x(3) would more commonly imply a function of 3, since you'd virtually always otherwise just write 3x.

True that economies generally grow with time, but that doesn't mean the prices of stocks match reality. Prior to corona, the Dow Jones was nearly double it's value from 2016. Did the US economy really nearly double in value since

Question for people who have emails at their own domain: what do you pick as your email address? Do you typically use first@firstlast.com? firstlast@firstlast.com? first@last.com? me@firstlast.com? Do you typically use multiple accounts?

This is exactly my take as well. I'm shocked the market hasn't tanked much more. I would think that anyone should prefer the economy of 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014...as compared to projections of unemployment as high as 30% and t

Considering the fed is warning about the possibility of 30% unemployment [0], an additional 7M could come next week. [0] https://www.usnews.com/news/economy/articles/2020-03-23/fed-...

This is painfully true. This is pretty well captured by the completely out of touch sentiments in [0], written by the folks at Crooked Media (generally Democratic establishment people). The wealthy upper middle class sees the coronavirus qu

The entire theory of the solution to coronavirus hinges on an assumption that it will eventually pass once a critical mass of people have been infected and developed immunity. The handful of stories like this trickling out might imply that

Doesn't this example contradict your point? The assassination of Franz Ferdinand is widely seen as what started WW1 by the general public.

Increasing the access to credit really only helps if there's a belief that businesses will take out credit in order to continue operations despite the lack of business, but it's hard to imagine they would do that. The problem is t

If the Fed had done nothing at all, it's conceivable that the markets would still be in exactly the same shape they are now (or even possibly better), except we'd still have those tools at our disposal. To an extent, that the Fed

We have a virus problem, not a credit problem. The Fed is whipping out all the financial tools and it's totally ineffectual at best, and disastrous at worst as now those tools are used up (as it were). Trying to address this pandemic

Would this indicate that the mortality rate is actually much higher percentage-wise, since the denominator is actually artificially inflated?

Why does fragmentation have to be so bad on Android? Windows runs on millions of different hardware configurations, including custom home-built machines, and all Windows machines receive software updates at the same time.

Can anyone say why gold (GLD) is dropping so much too? I would've thought it would be a rough inverse of the market. It's still up over the last month (just barely), but down over the past several days.

When you think about it, the whole market sort of follows these arbitrary-seeming rules. The actual prices of stocks are constantly changing 24/7/365, but the market is only open from 9:30am-4:00pm on weekdays excluding holidays.

FWIW, my main mattress is also foam (Leesa) and seems to have good edge support. But the Leesa was a lot more expensive than the Amazon mattress, and I wanted to spend less since it was a guest room.
