But they're also in the business of responding to search with facts. YouTube is a strange platform in that respect, but if someone searching for the moon landing gets a conspiracy video in the results because it's popular I don&#x

They can't really win. If you try to squash conspiracy theories like this there will be those free-speech hardliners who see it as crossing a line. If you allow the crazy conspiracy stuff then there will be people who complain about th

Detecting popups like this automatically seems like it will be more of a cat & mouse game with developers trying to find ways around it and then a bunch of legitimate use cases being blocked out. And Firefox still hasn't fixed thei

No, they are TWO different things. Yes, data can be used to improve the effectiveness of advertisements but that doesn't mean they're the same thing. There are also data brokers who are in the business of buying and selling data n

Fair enough. But animals don't have to follow the set of ethics/morals that we seem to value as a species. I'm not saying that this system wouldn't be more prolific or that regulations would somehow cause it to evolve qu

I think the problem is at a much lower level... This is the nature of competition and evolution. It's the natural progression of a game called "maximize the resources" where there are no rules against exploitation. Which is w

For some services I agree with your sentiment. But we don't have metrics so there's no way to know if this is a fair deal. Remember, they're showing us ads in addition to collecting volumes of information on us, so we're

We got rid of Flash, for the most part. But people seem to be in denial of JS being an issue even though it's been used time and time again to bypass security. Personally, my JS has been disabled since Meltdown/Spectre. There are

True, you can track people using plain old cookies and the likes. But JS can do much more shady things than tracking people.

It's not ads that are the problem. It's JavaScript. Plain text or image ads are fine. They can track passively without JS. The problem is that they're using JS to do all kinds of shady stuff.

I've noticed that too. They seem to have a decent army of people spreading nonsense on social media right now. If you post something negative about IOTA you're likely to get a bunch of troll responses from accounts with histories

It makes the IOTA team look naive and dismissive of serious concerns. I'm not sure how this was meant to "expose" MIT or be pro-IOTA in any way.

I live in Austin, Texas and we have a ban on single-use plastic bags. People just have to bring reusable bags when they go shopping or pay extra. It did seem to cut down on the number of bags you see littered about.
