You might try Toastmasters. Once you get past the first few "nervousness" lessons they focus on how to convey meaning with speech. Every chapter is different, so YMMV. Several of the speeches you have to prepare cover persuasion,

I really live having good formatting and spell check in the commit messages. It's much nicer than the `git commit -m "blah"` messages. Sure I could use another GUI, but magit is very easy when I'm already in emacs.

The high value project is a great place to find the parts that require the least amount of effort on your part but will have the highest value to the company and deliver those first. As an engineer this feels like "cheating". It&#

People still ride horses and we've had cars for over 100 years. I don't see driving going away, it just might be constrained in when and where you are allowed to drive(maybe like Autobahn in Chicago and Motorsports Ranch in Housto

I mostly agree, but I would qualify this with saying you don't need to know exact UML. I wouldn't worry about filled in triangles vs. diamonds, just the big ideas. Like everything enterprise, before it UML was wrapped in a three r

+1 for Digital Ocean, the $5 droplet is fast enough for most of what I do. And if you haven't tried Mosh recently I'd recommend it, it's a lifesaver when I get caught in a coffee shop with spotty wifi.

As a tangent, we still don't have a good definition of 'large' software project. Clojure hasn't been around for 8 years, so we don't have 10 or 15 year projects to look at. And I think we'd have heard if there

This has nothing to do with you writing webapps as a side job. It's about having some way for those corporations to prove the people who are verifying your work are competent to do so. That is the _whole_ point of the PE stamp!
