I'm reading the book. By 'realist', Smolin means that science shouldn't be satisfied with wave function collapse, which he nicely illustrates with Schrödinger's thought experiment of a cat in box. He's not at a

Agree and would add that there is no reason that the algorithms need to be secret. Well, there might be some value in keeping the algorithm from the writers, but definitely none in keeping it from the editor/teacher. Also, the algori

I'm just speculating, but I don't see why you can't quantize the output electrically. I guess I'm suggesting a mixed mode system, where an electronic cpu sends an array of values to an optical system that performs a calc

I love 'em, starting as a student when I switched from the ultra-quiet Butler library to always dully roaring Watson library to study. I cannot work with music in my ears, but loosley relevant background noise is just perfect when I ha

This is pretty cool. I don't know the nature of the calculation performed, but if it's an integral that took say 1000 clock cycles on a single core 1Ghz digital computer, and if it's true that the meta-material will scale dow

I think it's more exciting than author admits. Sure, it'll increase confidence and adoption, but it will really mean that the machine can be queried like an expert on whatever corpus it was trained on.

I basically agree with the technological argument made in the post. Orchestration plays the role of OS, where resources are defined, managed and protected. Containers are something analagous to device drivers, presenting the underlying reso
