Are the rail safety videos popping up recently in response to teens videoing themselves on rails for likes? https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/us-news/teens-electrocuted-600...

What happened is that Amazon charges sellers storage fees for their products not selling. Some sellers have no ability to take the products back to store them themselves, e.g. the products were sent directly from the factories to Amazon war

(x, y) are the components of a vector expressed in a 2D space, where space as the medium the vector is in. The dimension of the vector and the dimension of the space it's in are different. You can have a 0-dimension point on the 2D s

This looks like a great editor. Just a heads up over the name of the project. I've released a browser extension for navigating browser tabs named Tip Tab about 5 years ago [1]. Unfortunately its name is only one letter part from the

The gVisor sandbox doesn't provide direct access to the local file system of the host machine. It routes file requests over RPC to the outside Gofer server running on the host machine. The Gofer server reads the files on the host mac

Economy is all about incentives and behaviors. Did they learn any lessons from how they acted during the episode? And hopefully published a whole bunch of papers from it?

I largely follow the forgetful programming practice, i.e. I will get it out of my mind after finishing it. This forces the code to be clear and consistent so that I can pick up on it easily if I need to look at it again.

The point is to build a cable-like company without spending money to build the cable infrastructure, by using public spectrum.

Public spectrums are public goods. They're indirectly funded by our tax dollars. Putting DRM encryption on it is similar to a private company putting a gate on a national park and charging people to go into the park.

This is sad news. I have two NUC's. The old one I got 6 or 7 years ago and still runs great, as a headless Linux server. The newer one serves as a daily Windows driver.

Yes. The second version is difficult to understand when there's a need to add new states or modify the states. The first version has a straightforward structure and shape, making it easier to understand and update the state machine.

Not too far off. I got 5 quotes recently. Most are from $17,500 for $19,000 for a 3.5 ton Mitsubishi heat pump, with an outdoor condenser unit and an indoor fan+coil unit. Permit and inspection from the city add another $1,000.

Oh, it's live and well, and compensated very well. Just an example, TwoSetViolins did a live concert of some classical music pieces (no copyright would exist on them at this time and age) and their YouTube video got millions of views.

This is for exposing other data as a virtual file system. Let's say you want to expose the Git versions as folders and files. You need this to write the file system layer on top of Git.

He’s lying. In the transcript, he asked ChatGPT, “are the cases real? … are you sure?” That means in his mind he knew ChatGPT is capable of making things up and wanted to verify. He’s just lazy and didn’t do a simple external verification.

SIMD is not Intel only. ARM has SIMD support. So does AMD. Portability is not a problem. The C/C++ compilers have nice wrappers on them to let JVM take advantage of them. And there’s always the non-simd version to fall back to. JVM is
