"I don't see how you can predict workloads off of historical data" ... Think about that part, then:)

This is extremely promising. Makes you wonder if we ought not go further and implement a machine learning-based scheduler that studies and anticipates workloads and schedules accordingly so as to help jobs complete as quickly as possible.

Yes, it is a removal / diminishment / dissolvement / insert-word-here of the self, depending on the kind and amount that you do. That's what the article talks about, and that's what psychedelics do in general. And c

I agree and I suspect that by breaking up the default network psychedelics give us the opportunity to settle into a new, healthier attractor / mindset. They are also pretty dangerous - not everyone comes back and they lose themselves.

Just because you don't like the point doesn't mean I am mocking anyone - it's a legitimate point. What do you think the dissolvement of the self entails? No Self! You literally cease to feel like you exist independently of th

A reductio does not suggest that an argument is false. It is instead a tool that is useful for contrast enhancement. The real meat of the point I made is that there cannot be evidence for the OP's claim. It's just an opinion found

@nefitty, you posit that the diminishment of the self is a "permanent positive change." But you didn't provide any evidence. The reductio of your argument is that it's better to just be matter, since no self is involved.

TBH I can't remember the last time I saw non-normalized correlations in a study and the paper lost some credibility.. who does that, and why? What does a correlation of 25.76 mean? Relative to what? That's why you bound it 0 to 1.

In the limit it is hypocritical to select against someone who wants to select against people. This is where moonconf falls short - in the limit, they would kill in the name of empathy. Complete hypocrisy.

Depends on what exactly you did, but the SVM doesn't maximize calmness - it finds a maximally separating hyperplane that separates calm data from not-calm data. If you had real-time biofeedback then the person wearing the handband migh

"We used a support vector machine to maximize the "calmness" output of the band" fyi, this doesn't make sense.
