Fair enough! I'll admit, there are a number of somewhat unwieldy idioms in philosophy, but I think in a lot of cases they do serve to pick out a distinct notion. For what it's worth, in the expression "to think that p",

You’ve probably noticed this effect in the real world. Suppose you’re at a restaurant waiting for your meal to arrive. You don’t know exactly how long it will take, but you have some reasonable bounds (say, more than 10 minutes but less tha

It’s a stretch but I’d say a lot of modern analytical philosophy could be considered “technical” in the sense that the convention is to articulate ideas and arguments as clearly and precisely as possible. My recommendations would be Hilary

I could be wrong, but I don’t think Bill Bryson’s work is “technical writing” as commonly understood. Still worth reading, however, I’m sure.

I was also going to suggest this, although there are a few things about the UI that I don't love - e.g., it takes 5 'tab' keystrokes to get from a note title to the note body. On that note (no pun intended), I do wish it was

Yes! I'm working through the Design of Computer Programs on Udacity, which he teaches, and it's so enlightening to hear how he thinks through the conceptual framework of a program and see the code he comes up with to implement it.

I’ve worked in kitchens, and this characterization favors my experience much more closely than does the author’s. In a kitchen, mistakes are costly; imagine that you have one chance to compile your code, and if it doesn’t compile, then you

This seems problematic. "Given the right context" a lot of words could be synonyms. It seems like it's implicit in the meaning of "synonymous" that two words share the same meaning if they're interchangeable
