Yea, the opinion that you can only use your brain in an office job is wrong, but that opinion is somehow is imprinted on everyone. I know people who work(ed) construction who are actually very smart and they constantly belittle their own in

I wish physical movement was somehow integrated with software engineering more. Weak solutions like standing desks don't make it the cardio equivalent of something like a cleaning job. It's sad that we sacrifice health for more mo

What's more shocking to me is that Netflix is worth more than Disney. Just look at the list of Disney subsidiaries[1], then look at how bad the average Netflix original movie is and then tell me if the market caps makes any sense at al

Can someone smarter than me try to write a formal proof that you can only have 2 of the following: distributed, fast, secure?

But you can optimize those things. Google's current logo is now 305 bytes. Also there's caching. The internet is not built on proof of work.

Why? What purpose do you have for textbook physics? Think of what you're going to do with that knowledge. Are you going to become a physics teacher? Do you just want to impress "a bunch of folks on the internet"? The time in

Read the last 7-8 paragraphs. The talk about "the power of love" cheapens what is otherwise a resonating piece. No where else does love (apart from "loving" war) come into play.

I find it ironic that he talks about the power of love after ditching the Vietnamese girl he was going to have a future with "the way all men betrayed the women who helped them through the war".

VideoStream has also successfully played every filetype I've thrown at it. My only gripe is that it will lag on high bitrate videos (e.g. 9GB for a 2 hour long movie).

> For example, you could just not nod, and not smile. And only pretend to clap after the next announcement. And if everybody does this, it adds up without anybody being a target. This is hilarious and terrifying.

Maybe if you're smart enough to do that, you're smart enough to care about your health in other ways and thus you should still fit into the price model that the insurance company uses ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good points and informative response. You're definitely an outlier, though. > Professors are the worst and are not well paid at all Not from the professors I know (engineering fields). That information is also public in many cases.

It irks me that the wastefulness of bitcoin is proportional to how valuable it is, and I don't think that changes even when miners are only competing for transaction fees. edit: Waste might even be exponentially proportional to bitcoin
