Isn't the authoritarianism in the fact that the hardware you buy doesn't let you just install your own firmware? "Memory safety" has the word "safety" in it, but really it's just a tool to help developers

Seems like giving time-based estimates just isn't feasible, though. Sure, for some types of problems it's not hard (though it feels like tasks that can be that easily estimated should probably be automated), but many are new/

I agree with the sentiment of not wanting to waste time on your OS, but I disagree that Windows solves the problem. A computer that reboots without my permission is not usable.

Yeah, that's the thing. It can be good to work hard , but not necessarily long hours, or long stretches without breaks. I never feel more productive than when I just got back from a vacation.

Maybe this is a step toward a new Windows Phone that is compatible with Android apps.

A big part of the reason Windows Phone failed was a lack of a good app ecosystem. Maybe they’re working their way toward a new Windows Phone that is compatible with Android apps?

I decided to just stop using Reddit a while ago. I can’t be bothered to use a website that is so hostile to being used.

Not sure. I guess it shouldn't hurt anything though, since semicolon is the comment character.

There isn't really even a good definition for "character" in unicode. There are code points, grapheme clusters, etc.

I guess it depends on whether or not you want to work on the code of the tools, vs just use them.

Do you have some sort of an SLA with Rust, stating that all of this work should already have been completed? It's a relatively new project, and will take time to catch up to existing languages in many areas. Neither C or C++ started wi

It’s easier for every user to have to change their behavior/preferences/principles than it is for developers to test in a few browsers?

Yeah, whether or not something is safe/good for you is a different question from whether or not it should be legal. If we banned everything that's bad for you, then vegetable oil should be illegal.
