I often use this technique in my dev debug logs. If the last print() was more than a few seconds ago, it also prints “(2.4 seconds passed)” in gray text before printing another line. This helps with visually separating debug requests, butto

I think our issue is much more banal: we are very slow talkers and our effective communication bandwidth is measured in bauds. Anything that could bridge this airgap would fucking explode in intelligence.

This is actually relieving. People are very pessimistic itt (lol see the top comment for the past year https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38777115 ).

It’s both nonsense, cause what you see here is a double conversion from an arbitrary problem domain into http domain and back again. Using a specific http code together with an app-domain code could make sense iff you wanted an intermedia

Consciousness (in this sense) doesn't physically exist cause it's unfalsifiable. Philosophy has a whole p-zombie section on that. I believe that you are mixing this metaphysical awareness with the physical process of mind machiner

It isn’t known in advance though. These people went to that job and got psychiatric diseases that, considering the thirdworldiness, they are unlikely to get rid of. I’m not talking about obvious “scream and run away” reaction here. One may

I understand the concern, but can’t you just maintain an actual reference field to parent_str in a string view? Unless I missed some no-extra-fields constraint itt, then sorry for the noise.

These are regular questions in languages with (and without) reference counting, what’s so special about string views?

My issue with LLMs is that you require a review-competent human in the loop, to fix confabulations. Yes, I’m using them from time to time for research. But I’m also aware of the topics I research and see through bs. And best LLMs out there,

I was aware of that, but somehow it never happened, maybe got lucky. Smartdrv itself never crashed, and neither program crashes nor electricity issues affected it. Ofc I always used ctrl-alt-del before turning the pc off. It’s interesting w

My favorite program in DOS was smartdrv.exe. I know it’s much more late addition, but it was a game-changer for these slow hard drives. Even a tiny cache size (I believe I tried kilobytes range) sped up things like 10-20x. Even windows 3.x

Sort of, but doesn’t that sit on a far-fetch horizon? I doubt that drone companies are all the same who sold aircraft retrofuturism to people back then.

Yes but the idea was lost in the process. It became a faster transportation system that uses air as a medium, but that’s it. Personal planes are still either big business or an expensive and dangerous personal toy thing. I don’t think it’s

Perl was 1 line vs. 100 lines in everything else, in text processing. Now it is 1 line vs. 2-3 lines that are clearer and have stricter semantics. It also has support for running oneliners straight from cli. You probably don’t want to learn
