But thats the same as Germany, no? You still have to pay for health insurance when you quit your job, so thats something to take into consideration before you resign, not only in USA.

There is no way for us to know and I didn't say that w/o Google or other Big Tech we wouldn't be have these candies as someone described. Rather that we should acknowledge the role they played in distributing the tech they di

English speaking jobs are mostly in startups and that's the same as what OP seems to be running away from. Otherwise, he would have to learn a new language and all that jazz of moving to another country.

But also those US companies brought this tech they bought to the masses. To say they were built by others anyway reduced the role big tech played here same way a naive developer thinks a company’s success is just because of code he wrote.

I sometimes wonder if software developers who share these sentiments are often disappointed by the way things work in the industry because they expected to be coding/interacting with machines and toys the whole working time but in real

Maybe in Europe it is different? There is still a coding part, but is somewhat relevant to the job position (build an API that does xyz etc)

Ah awesome! Well I don't know what kind of project you're working on, but I like over engineering my pet projects for learning purposes and found it quite fun!

You can deploy the project you just finished to AWS/Google Cloud. That can involve learning Terraform/Pulumi, Ansible, AWS specific technology, setting up CI/CD. Maybe you can write a tool that hammers your API and see how yo

We do indeed have better social benefits. But are they really benefits for a SWE in 2021? The social benefits in Europe are great for people with low-mid salaries but as an SWE, I'd rather take a US salary with less social benefits tha

I agree that coding is the core skill of software engineering, no question about that. What I don't agree with is when we make it as a deciding factor in interviews for mid and senior levels. At such stage, I'd assume someone who

There is a lot more to software engineering than solving algorithmic problems in a vacuum with little resemblance to real life engineering.

This doesn't sound foreign to me. Node projects rely on a lot of dependencies (and so does their dependencies) so there is a lot of moving parts and it's prone to break.

In the course of say a quarter or two I work on average 5-7 hours a day. Some weeks there is more work to be done than others depending on the phase of the project at hand. I tend to not start too many things at the same time (start working
