I absolutely love JavaScript and being able to use one language from database to server to client in my current stack BUT I am very skeptical about using JS for representation and styling. Maybe JS can be massaged into a great language for

I miss emacs more than I like Sublime Text… never really liked it as an OS though (bash is better).

The difference in speed of XML and JSON is not going to be a bottleneck to most applications. Of course, the small difference in parsing speed I'm sure matters a lot to some people. The major advantage of JSON is a readable syntax. X

Well, you may be right. I'd be happy with any system that avoids the negatives of the current food infrastructure.

My understanding is that 1 acre can be planted, cared for, and harvested in about 10 hours a week. This assumes the CSA would not be making deliveries. An acre is ~30 shares -- food for roughly 100-150 adults. Most CSAs grow food for cons

That's what I am doing, actually. As a beginner, I'm producing about 15% of my food now, eggs and vegetables, while also running a software business, and hanging about on HN. I live in a small city on about 1/4 acre. I exp

Perhaps it's true that you can't feed the whole world without industrialized food, but you could feed the vast majority of people who live in cooperative climates. It's debatable whether the rest couldn't be fed as well

How about a return to traditional agriculture, which would provide more jobs, cleaner food, and decentralization and localization of food infrastructure? Why the relentless pursuit of industrialization and homogeneity at any cost?

Obviously people have a right to create and consume smut, but it doesn't make it right or beneficial or erase the harm it does.

Two thoughts: scaling down can be just as important as scaling up, and cluster nodes that need to talk to each other are probably less common than stateless cluster nodes that need to talk to the client.

Threatening comments would not be OK in the US. Threatening someone is illegal here. The US historically has tended away from laws that apply to people's thoughts or opinions, unless those thoughts or opinions are connected with a tangible
