Thanks! Yeah, now it does seem bad that I haven't put any snippets on the front page. I'll fix that later today.

Not quite. It has extra things too, like generics. But things that exist in Go are there too, mostly unchanged.

What? Italy is not "Western"? Well, your definition of Western Europe is very weird. Italy is one of the foundations of Western Europe. What you wrote about religious heritage is also weird... Protestant Austria? France? What you&

I asked my co-worker who usually contacts support, and in most cases we actually got some response (mine never got any reply though), but it was always full of buck passing. Like saying that these routing issues you're writing about mu

My main concern with GCP is its unreliability. BigQuery API randomly giving 40x/50x errors (that has been happening for over a year), signed URL API returning series of 50Xs every few days, CPU on instances going up to 100% for some un

It was mentioned in a few places, but very briefly as well. Which is a bummer because Neil Stephenson could've afforded to push a few details more into the story.

Whoops! We're working on that, it will be back in a moment. PS. But Panda (the service) is working, it's just the static frontpage.

But it's not just about pure, CPU-wise language speed. We re-architected some of the software, and Go concurrency model was very helpful with that.

Thanks! It has been some time since we ran the profiler on the Ruby code, but AFAIR it was doing a lot of parsing; also it extensively used a logging gem that was dumping Ruby objects to strings. We could have just used another logging libr

Some time ago, I wrote a simple tool (command line and C++ library) for generating random data for the same purpose. You basically specify a regular expression and the random strings on output match that regexp. Link: https://git

I don't know, Qt Creator gives up on the code base I have to work on, CDT has problems but is still much better. I remember it used to be the same at my previous job. I wish I could use KDevelop or Xcode, but we're doing our work

C++ is really great, but there are two major pains that I wish someone found remedies for: compile time and compiler error messages. Lack of tooling was another one, but with libclang tons of good tools are coming.

I think that some amount of knowledge was assumed. You would have understood it if you had known Java. For-each loops in Java have a very similar syntax. You probably know something that is similar to Ruby, and that's why you understan

Not joking. But I had my suspicions, I think I might have seen a clothes dryer in American movies or something. BTW. We have -30°C winters and we still get by without them. We just hang our clothes indoors, next to a radiator.
