The benefits from operator overloading are "I can show this to a mathematician and it looks like what they're used to". The downsides lurk in the corners of whether it's actually doing what you think. I'll pass.

You have a cite or link exploring this? I had thought tail-call optimization was a way to get inefficient recursion to parity with iteration, by turning it into iteration. I'd never heard of recursion being faster on its own. Is it a

Hang on, we agree on where the prisoner should go. Obvious slam dunk case. Why am I a fascist for it and you're not? Yes I am deliberately winding you up here but maybe you're overattached to some narrative points? It comes off

Yeah, I guess I was getting around to arguing about primacy of sex vs gender being stupid. Let people live their lives and then make the obvious decision when that clashes with the rights of others. The contrarian in me just loves riling pe

I agree, it's obvious common sense. What's interesting is that it was so hard to get there. Despite the answer being obvious. The article author suffers from the same problem, she keeps tacking on unnecessary attacks on what gend

Its a binary question and I see zero answer despite a lot of words. If you had to make that call, in that case, which is it? (For the record, the narrative I'm pushing here is "shades of gray" rather than "red")

But if you had to make the choice, in exactly one case? Convicted rapist, currently identifying as female.

Your second paragraph is a total dodge. I'm tempted to characterize it as lacking male-gendered terms.

How would you handle the prison situation? Convicted formerly-male rapist, now identifies as female. Which prison do they go to? Yes it's a cherry-picked example but it's also a test of absolute statements about bigotry. Maybe t

Thank you, I was afraid to post the same thing. Definitely transphobic at points but also valid at other points and still a very interesting read.

That article IIc pivots on the key phrase "physical destruction". Look, internment isnt good either, why dig in your heels on the most loaded possible word?

Would you say the choice of the word "genocide" here is because it's the most accurate description of what's going on? Or is it chosen for rhetorical/propaganda effect without too much concern for accuracy?

I'm with you on everything here but its not like westerners have a monopoly on cash/connections being paramount. It's been true everywhere, all the time, even in communist countries that are supposed to make it impossible.

In practice, of course, cops will flick their lights on when they want to run a red light instead of waiting. So of course they drive through the park whenever they want.

It's specifically the phenomenon of rich 1-percenters trying to cancel each other that's grating. Is there injustice in the world? Clearly. Are these people insufferable? Also very much yes. In the tech context specifically, we a

It's a major turning point in geopolitics, involving two political genius war criminals having a remarkably frank and honest exchange of views. They're batting around the idea of Japan going Soviet at one point. I was fascinated.

US was part of the 8 nation army that sacked Beijing during the Boxer rebellion. Quite a bit after the opium wars, but unequal treaties were one of the boxers' primary grievances, so it's in there as a root cause.
