Do we get calls to outlaw Nestlé every time it's campaign season? Hershey would love it. Hating Nestlé is niche. Hating the Russians is partisan. Hating the Chinese is mainstream consensus. Consider how confident you are in the slav

Anything Chinese in the news gets pulled into the current zeitgeist of anti-China fear. If that's also useful for undercutting competition or scoring some other political/economic points, you can pretty much count on it.

Andrew Jackson was more prominent, sounds similar, and probably gave a drunk address at some point. It's an understandable mistake.

The Israelis are the ones setting those parameters and creating the conditions, though. It's not a "gotcha" to point out that journalists are also affected along with the other noncombatants.

"Information superhighway" has stuck around for 30 years as the perfect specimen of cringe. If it were less bad, we'd have forgotten it.

That's fair as long as we're consistent, personally I always prick my ears at "terrorism" after seeing it politicized for most of my adult life.

That's leaning pretty hard on the technicality of who has the UN chair, with the detail that it's effectively us (NATO) vetoing their recognition. Not that I'm cool with the cable cuts, but "rogue state" would be mo

Anyone else find the article footnotes to be really.. moralizing? It's like the author had to keep injecting that they are a non-sociopathic, responsible member of society with good thoughts as opposed to the interviewee.

The article itself already brought that comparison, it's a pro-western outfit dumping on what they consider our adversary. We could ask why articles like this have multiplied in recent years and that's interesting, but people here

It's not a conspiracy, it's a culture. People who don't adhere get filtered out or learn to be quiet, and then you wind up with free, uncoerced and honest decisions that all cut a particular way.

As a consumer, of course you buy what's cheaper and that's not a moral failing. Policy makers on the other hand should consider externalities, and optimize for making them less bad, or at least not make them worse.

"Mostly consistent" is not good enough for many applications. The thing most people pick in practice is CA, single master with hopefully a replicated backup.
