my impression was the "pro" is the same board but comes with a framework 13 chassis, but yeah the lack of explicit details does not inspire confidence.

the "ownership" framing is because bootloader locks allow vendors to unilaterally make decisions about how your device operates after you purchase the device.

you're focusing on the "single window" part. the revenue-driven decision was choosing to make the OS more like iOS, locked down with an app store, rather than macos, which allows third-party applications, browsing the filesys

i agree, except the web part. Purism did a lot of work to build Phosh, based on Gnome, with GTK apps that had fluid layout. on a phone-size screen, the UI was suited for touch; but connect it to a screen and everything seamlessly switches t

some people think it's not "homelabbing" unless you're doing things the way it's done at large scale. i think these people are aiming to enter IT as a career and consider a homelab to be a resume project. but proxmo

i appreciated this comment, even though it downplays real pragmatic concerns. from a security perspective, should getting on an airplane (especially for domestic flights) really be all that different from getting on a bus? are the potential

does android not allow you to configure a custom DoH resolver? could Mozilla simply offer a public resolver, and encourage users to switch at the OS level (possibly including a first-launch dialog offering to set the configuration for you)?

what you're really paying for is a difference in manufacturing; the spec bump is just to make the very high price hurt less. $2k instead of $800. they designed an elaborate process which theoretically guarantees that your phone was not

you're describing the dangers of the open internet, but this is about the dangers of non-app-store apps. android already makes it quite difficult to side-load non-app-store apps; certainly not something a tech-illiterate user could do
