Here's one my friend wrote, we're using it for in-place editing of html files stored on S3: http://github.com/micha/jquery-eip/tree/master

Has anyone managed to get this running on OS X? A few weeks ago I played with some header files but didn't have any luck.

Strikes me as dated and pointless; reads like a high school "compare and contrast" essay and the guy is hell bent on flaming Lisp. Apples and Oranges dude.

The way I see it, programming for the web is, for simple apps, the easiest way to build anything in any language that provides an interface and does something useful. It's also, in my opinion, the most difficult platform to develop more co

Yeah, I saw that... I think I met a handful of members at the most recent RIT Barcamp. Awesome guys, but I wanted to test the waters for interest in a group that's language and platform agnostic and has the entrepreneur/startup angle.

Cool, you should join the group anyways and then you'll get notified when the next meetup goes down. Thanks for checking it out!

Hi everyone, I was cruising around looking for a hacker oriented club or group in Rochester, NY or Western NY and didn't find anything... so I made a meetup group. We'll be tentatively meeting on either the RIT campus (if I can swing it) o

Me too - using Gmail + Gears w/ Safari 4 Fluid app, and a dock badge 'inbox count' userscript. Google will tell you you can't install gears with safari 4 - but it works.

I'm not sure this kind of entrenchment is endemic of COBOL programmers specifically. I knew plenty of people in college who, once they knew Java, were perfectly content with their ability to program, and will probably be happily employed f

Write tests before you code, and spend more time planning software with pen and paper before you actually write it. If you're having doubts about your abilities or solutions and work as part of a team, ping team members or friends.

Awesome - reminiscent of HotRuby, except cooler/faster/parses and executes all by itself. It would be nice if there was a JS Parrot VM.

I feel the same way. Why not just save everyone some hassle, admit to ourselves we never click on ads, and employ an extension or userscript.

There have existed, and do exist, cultures which value human lives lost in combat the same way we will view robots lost in combat. In a sense, our enemy already thinks this way. Each Jihadist's death, to them, is a victory in itself, and

I wish! Another progressive computing project I'm aware of in the same vein was Japan's "Fifth Generation Computer" initiative, which bore, among other things, a concurrent dialect of Prolog called KL0. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_

I have very fond memories of Radio Shack also. It's where my dad bought the first family computer, a Tandy 486, when I was in elementary school. The guy who sold it to us was friendly and knowledgeable. I remember asking him how I might

Uhoh - I missed decimal place. 3 billion/sec would mean about 3000 of the cheapest Rackspace cloud machines, which could have been operated for 18 hours for about $810. I'm not sure Rackspace lets you have that many though.

If I was using just my own machine, or spent a few grand to put together my own CUDA farm, CUDA would have been great. I think using cloud resources was the way to go though, because it's easy to search for keys concurrently, and you can su

In Nielsen's "Designing Web Usability" I remember him frowning on the use of "here" and "click here" as links. Since around 2000, when I first read the book, I heeded his advice. For more information: click here To sign up, go here
