That's the narrative about Europe as well. That we're somehow overrun by immigrants. Yet I can walk here in the city at night without getting robbed at gunpoint. Or any point really. Pickpockets are a pest here but that's abo

Why would investing in green tech make you poor? That's what's wrong with that argument. Moving away from fossil fuels is cheaper. Green energy is very cheap, it just misses a base load component right now. It's just that th

Can GOS continue to support existing pixels if AOSP drops support for them I wonder? But it's easy to say 'whatever the cost' if you're wealthy :) For many people especially outside the US it's not that simple.

The nexus 4 was also really mediocre. Only partial 4g and poor battery life iirc. The nexus 5 also by LG was bulls eye though. Except for the ceramic letters constantly falling off.

True, here in Europe they're definitely not. Especially on prepaid. I wouldn't buy a phone without dual physical sim. eSIM is nice for travelling but I want physical for my daily numbers. This way I can stick them in any phone I w

How are those features industry standard if most of the industry doesn't have them? Serious question. I applaud you guys aiming high but it is high IMO. But I do worry about the cost of entry. The pixel a series were just really good v

Yes but all phones coming out now are going to be complete turds really. They're all going to cut corners to offset the exploding cost of storage and ram.

Same here. It really helps me get deep into things that would have been daunting to start due to the boring research work required. I have heavy ADHD and high intelligence (not to brag, it is often more of a burden than a blessing!) so I ca

Yes for this there isn't, strange enough. I don't know why either. I read that part of the issue is that the EU still considers part of the waste policy a national sovereignty. But I don't know enough about that to verify tha

Yes it was an error because backspace does function as a backspace when a text input field has the focus. Making something that should be muscle memory context-dependent. It should have been Ctrl-Backspace or something.

It's not about the packaging really. It could be as simple as a bubble wrap envelope. The problem is having to register in every country and some of them levy fees that are insane for small artists. The EU was supposed to be a single e

I'd be happy with a lot of the current websites to disappear. There's way too much crap around anyway. And the ones that are worth it, yeah I'd pay for them. If they are ethical and worth it (I won't pay for anything fro

I use Llama.cpp and OpenAI-style API of course (who doesn't, unless you use Ollama perhaps?) Ollama sucks, they dropped ROCm support for my card out of the blue, and the Vulkan replacement wasn't ready. The developer just shrugged

Yes it works great with them through Vulkan. ROCm is more hit and miss, especially because the cards which are affordable (and PCIe, the new ones aren't PCIe compatible!) are already fairly old and have already been dropped by ROCm. Bu

Similar here, except I used Opus 4.8. I don't mind using cloud models to make code as long as I don't put actual private data into the model. And I can't run qwen 27b reliably at the moment, I need a better gpu. It was pretty

For me, a HUGE benefit to running local models is that my data stays mine, on my computers only. Even if Google, OpenAI, Anthropic whatever promise not to use it, how sure can I be of that? Data is gold anyway. And we're in the middle

What? Below 100tk/s is worthless? I agree that 14t/s is pretty tedious for interactive use, yes. But 50-60tk/s is faster than I can read. 100tk/s is outright fast. Don't forget there is a limit entering content into

These numbers are a lot lower than I expected from such pricey hardware. I'll stick with my old AMD datacenter cards thanks. An Instinct MI50 32GB would cost around $550 or so. It has 1TB/s vram bandwidth thanks to its HBM2.

I think the issue is more that big tech only trusts their own kind and usually has motives to exclude privacy conscious software because they can't datamine it or make backroom exclusivity deals. The needs of the user don't matter
