Many sites have a simple requirement of "allow user to upload a jpeg, resize it to create user profile pic for the user". No need to support anything but the most common formats for this, but you need security and you need speed o

Imagine all GPL software required the licensee to never enforce API copyright, and if they ever enforced API copyright (over unrelated code), their license to the GPL code was null and void. Then Oracle can't run Linux.

MySQL is the PHP of relational databases. You can do most things with it, but you don't choose it when you have the option to choose something better.

The price of the Model 3 relies on using economies of scale to make it cheaper to manufacture. But the saving are projected, not guaranteed. Also, they need to make many more of them per year, which is not trivial.

Fossil-fuel power plants that charge a Tesla pollute quite a bit, so you need to switch to electric vehicles and non-polluting energy generation to fix air pollution.

The unverified components were steel rods. SpaceX manufacture most of the complicated parts, but they buy nuts and bolts. Also, the steel rods were checked, but only statistically, not each one. 1 in more than a thousand failed at 5 times l

Especially with level 22 with --ultra, I found the compression to be good and decompression very fast. Can't wait for 1.0 for format freeze (currently decompressor contains code for previous versions, but that's a hack).

RSA is not used to encrypt large messages. Symmetric ciphers are used for this. With classic RSA, the secret key for the symmetric cipher is encrypted using RSA. Often (e.g. in the Signal protocol), a short secret key is extended using a HK

The last GPLv2 GCC is 4.2.1. OpenBSD has 4.9.3 (they also have 4.2.1 and 3.3.6). Why not 5.3? Why was clang updated post 5.9? How long do they take to stabilize a release?
