I too used to think that CEOs were a waste of resources, and that they had minimal if any impact on most companies. But I think people grossly underestimate how important CEOs are, because the vast majority of them do a decent job. When you

The ID4 is a nice car, and definitely on our radar after our Nissan Leaf lease expires. If you regularly take long road trips you’re going to be disappointed in the user experience with an EV. But EVs right now are perfect second cars. I

Yeah, but electric cars have so many fewer moving parts that they just don’t need much maintenance at all. As someone who has an EV now, I’m never going back because EVs are just so much better overall.

This is a great business model. If they can culture a reasonable enough imitation of salmon then they can certainly do so for other fish that are even more expensive to farm and grow. They only have to come in just under the price of farm g

This is one of those projects that sounds neat at first, but the more you think about it you're left with an overwhelming question of why. Since serverless platforms charge you per API call this would be tremendously more expensive th

Bonuses should be: infrequent, irregular, unannounced, and large. Otherwise you end up in this trap where people expect the bonus and worse yet, count on it to pay their bills. It’s stupid to make it a part of your overall compensation pack

The biggest problem with the whole global workforce thing is timezones. Having worked with some remote, global teams, it is a real PITA to schedule meetings with someone 14 hours out of sync with you. Either they're working late into t

The vast, overwhelming majority of "independent" contractors on 1099s do not actually qualify for that status as defined by the law. Most of them should be W2 employees per the law. The only reason most companies get away with thi

The current academic publishing system is so broken that I can’t see it surviving for much longer. In addition to outright fraud, journals are chock full of low quality papers and papers that cannot be reproduced. Citations are a useless me

Good for Ghana. There is no reason why cocoa cannot be processed into chocolate in Ghana, except that the Swiss have cornered this market for a long time. Ghana should cutout the middle men.

What are you talking about? Humans have already irrevocably altered the natural ecosystem over the past 100k years. We have: killed off all the megafauna, domesticated thousands of plants, drastically changed the landscape through agricultu

You don't need to replace 10 excellent pilots with 10 good pilots to win a war of attrition. You just need 10 pilots that can fly, lock a missile and fire. Because if you're losing 10 planes to every 1 that you're killing the
