My 10.9.5 box fails the tests. What does /bin/sh --version give you?

Yes, but there's another issue. Apple hard links /bin/sh to bash. They could switch /bin/sh to an Almquist shell like dash to mitigate Shellshock.

I'm guessing an aggressive new manager came in and demanded it, and he was the type who viewed counterarguments as disrespectful to his authority.

I'm not so sure about that one, FARC is a marxist group that had ties to Chavez. I can't see the CIA helping them. It seems more likely that anyone looking at the flight / maintenance logs noticed discrepancies. No legitima

The US gov will make substantial efforts to help you if you're caught in a war zone. That's a big plus if you live or travel to dangerous areas. I'm a Canadian, but I've heard stories about people working overseas with

You're missing the point. Look at this code. export evil='() { :;}; exit'; echo $evil # prints '() { :;}; exit' bash # new bash session immediately exits Imagine a dev using eval() in PHP. The PHP i

It's not setting arbitrary environment variables, it's setting specific ones. Bash is basically calling eval on the list of envvars without re-escaping the values. The people who wrote the CGI spec didn't expect that to happ

It seems like there must be more to the story... But it's fun to imagine the US Forest Service subpoenaing GPS data from Instagram / Facebook whenever they need to raise money.

I imagine it's more of a "check this box to verify you are not a US citizen" system. The bank could then charge your account fees if you lied and they had to deal with the IRS. I actually think the US tax return laws are rea

No. Or rather not yet. The CRTC's position is that they have authority over Netflix, Youtube, Vimeo, Blip, etc but regulations aren't yet needed.

A blanket exception for all online services was issued in 1999, in 2007 it was amended to require financial reports when requested. So there's nothing specific to Netflix. However most streaming providers aren't available in Canad

Libertarians, basically by definition, are people with a low group instinct. So any project that requires large numbers of them to work together tends to fall apart. The other big problem with the micronation / charter city idea is th

This was doomed from the start. By trying to make it more realistic they exposed the limits of technology. A key problem is that the weight of a blade is a huge part of swordfighting. A light bladeless controller can't capture the t

Angular doesn't really provide a data model, you generally have to roll your own for an app. Think of this as client side ActiveRecord. It handles queries, relations, and syncing with the back end.

Picasso and Cézanne both got popular in the 190x's. As photography got better the art world stopped being impressed with accurate perspective. Cézanne was famously bad at perspective, but kept painting anyways. Essentially they were b

This has been discussed a few times. I think the short answer is that we don't have enough information to verify Postol's theory. But I think there's one major problem with his analysis. Iron Dome works by tracking rockets

A "not guilty" verdict means that there was enough evidence to go to trial, but not enough to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt. It's far from a confirmation that you did nothing wrong.
