I always feel like scope inheritance problems are overstated. It's weird, but it's weird in the exact way that JS prototypical inheritance is weird. So it's important to learn. Anyways the fix is simple, always initialize yo

I used to use a mobile RSS reader that was just a phonegap app. It was useful for downloading reading for my morning subway ride. Cell service on the TTC has been long project filled with fail. In general I expect that it's not the b

Was his paper as verbose as this article? If so it's no wonder that no one would publish it. He writes like he's being paid per word....

NAT / Firewalls cause a lot of issues. Peer to peer data isn't as straightforward as you'd expect. The Skype people actually came from Kazaa, so they had a lot of experience with sending peer data across corporate / edu

It's not easy to make a peer to peer system that can get past most corporate firewalls. So Skype is more complex than you'd guess. Your best bet is something using WebRTC.

Jeb is actually really unpopular with a lot of the Republican base. He gets booed when he's at conventions. His strategy was to use his Wall St connections (he was working for Lehman Brothers when it went bankrupt) to build a war ches

I suspect that this is actually Google's Flash->SWF converter in action. I'm guessing that you're using adblock, and it's hiding the relevant content.

I've seen some impressive integration between Clojure and Emacs. A quick edit - run cycle is a huge win. As are good debugging tools.

A Greek exit was the right solution in 2005, in 2010, and again in 2015. It won't happen so presumably we'll be talking about this again in 2020. It's amazing how correct the UK "No" campaign was.

I actually think the worst bad habit of unions is taking over managerial functions -- eg scheduling, vacations. It effectively turns the union into a subcontractor, and employees start needing a union to protect them from the union.

Putting it in the public domain sounds great, but someone needs to conduct the human trials needed to make it safe and effective. They aren't cheap and producing a vaccine carries huge liability risks.

I've always found the "don't waste vertical space" rule to be particularly important when I'm reading code. I've also always hated frames in IDEs. I think I used too many small monitors...

I'm pretty sure Eraser (1996), staring Schwarzenegger, had a smart rail gun that auto-targeted hearts. It might have even been hacked or jammed in the climax, my memory of the movie is a bit fuzzy.

TodoMVC is great because every framework has to implement the same thing. That lets you see some of the warts of the framework. Skimming over the official Angular docs and examples you probably wouldn't guess that ngRoute won't l

Wages have been stagnant for the past 30 years (inflation adjusted), but education and housing costs have been skyrocketing. Rent control laws are set up to benefit long term residents, so new workers or people who move to a new city get sc
