Among other things, I quite like the blog, especially travelling photos. There’s some ‘old Internet / old blogosphere’ vibe in it. Not much to add to the topic of having a MacBook Air M2 with Linux. Glad it works well, I’m eyeing an M1

Unfortunately, not yet. I tried all of them locally earlier this year, but very briefly, like 15 minutes each. We use Matrix as our family messenger, which is not self-hosted. It’s mainly for occasional and brief text communication, so I’m

10 users for mobile notifications is a non-starter for me. I’d rather host XMPP then, I guess. Or a Matrix server, it seems like it allows the mobile notifications.

I was about to propose to deploy this as a company chat to my current boss, the self-hosted edition. So, is this still the best option (considering this can be reverted back, I assume), or should I just seek elsewhere now?

Thanks for the attention to this matter!

I was genuinely sure it’s not a problem, as I personally know quite a few people who do that. But I think they use either FaceTime or regular cellular. That’s sure weird a simple call does work in iPhone 4S (imagine a price for it in 2026),

Oh my, I think that’s the most impressive work I’ve seen here on the HN. Very well done! I hope the public would explore the whole thing pretty quickly. Personally, I afraid they, the files, were highly tampered with, so obviously a lot cou

Have you considered that what you could hear from others, some of those people can be not smart? I know that’s not the reply you seek. But still an input. Sometimes, I think overanalysing something stupid makes quite little sense. Answerin

Do you mind elaborating on plasmas? I have entirely missed this technology, and wonder what’s about it.

I’d do exactly as you did. It’s pity it didn’t work for you. I’m on the market to buy a TV (not hurrying though), so I’m not sure what to do here. I’d like to have Dolby Vision (otherwise why would I want a TV if my computer display is good

There was an event (or events?) in the past, when some past documents were forged, but with the default (in MS Word, I suppose) Calibre font, which was released years later. I wonder if this has something to do with it. I love if someone re

For me that’s a FU moment that reminds me ‘TF am I doing here?’ I genuinely see this resource as a censoring plus advertising (both for YC, obviously) platform, where there are generic things, but also things someone doesn’t want you to rea

As a pro user of Flash (pre-Adobe) I don’t even surprised Animate is dead. ‘Why bother renaming it?’ was my initial thought back then. I was very good at the instrument, but the instrument was so bad (imo it got even worse when Adobe bought

I don’t agree you have to copy Windows. I agree it’s nice to copy it to lure those who touched no other system and know only Windows. But actually, it’s good to have just simple and usable interface, and people would learn it no problem. Th

Perhaps my bad. I just don’t know Clojure at all, and honestly it might be the first time I’m seeing it, hence the mistake. My quick search prior to my posting returned this: >Clojure is a dynamic and functional dialect of the programmin

From the user perspective Figma is great, and I might say it’s even better. However, all that came from throwing more money into the problem, I believe. Figma just won because they invested unlimited money into this, while Sketch might be s

The closest analogy would be Sketch for macOS, which Figma simply copied at first, and then mostly replaced. I would love to see open source Sketch for open source systems.

So, Java instead of wasm, but open source. While LogSeq is an open source copycat (not really) of Obsidian, I simply can’t stand it. I have tried Penpot a couple of years back, so cannot say anything about it, with the exception that I noti

It works for me, and I see little difference with AnyDesk I used before. However, I’m not a frequent user, just a very occasional one to troubleshoot some of elderly friends, parents, etc. I’d love to have my own relay for it, but I never m
