Intellectual property is about much more than patents. Are you seriously saying that if I copy your work directly (eg source code) and rebrand it, I'm not doing anything wrong? Just innovating?

Just curious: how would an economy work in you hypothetical world where intellectual property does not exist? Honest question.

Heh. It depends on how you interpret relativity I think.

But if it's not a QC, it won't solve them any faster. Our classical computers are pretty efficient these days.

Any specific pointers? I'm very fluent in Java and I'm very productive in it, but can't seem to find small freelance projects, and small is all I have time for now.

True indeed. Some ideas are really valuable, and I think it's mainly those that are well-informed, committed to a specific market (typically a niche) and ripe for execution. Maybe it's because many of the ideas in the "ideas

Well, a closure can't be more than a couple hundred bytes, I guess. If he wants to continue with that technique, I'd hack it like this: use reflection to crawl the closure, isolate the variables bound to the closure context, seria

A closure is a function augmented with implicit references to the context in which it was created. In case of an upvote link it would hold references to the post you could upvote. That reference exists not in the URL but in the closure at t

I guess it's also because of the technical elegance of using closurees for page actions. It's hard to admit that a technique that feels elegant and expressive fundamentally doesn't scale.

Nice app... but I think images are source assets (like code) and sprites are binary deliverables (like object files, dll's or class files) and therefore generating them (like compiling) needs to be part of your automated build flow.

You hit it I think, but the bigger issue (heh) remains: you're basically creating a contract which is not all that different from a tiny freelancing gig, but you've a more distant relation between the parties, so it may be harder

I had my formative education based on SICP and I can confidently say it made me a better (Java and other) programmer. I work with Java every day and I am very productive with it, but teaching it as a first language is foolish imho.

I'll add a European perspective here: we're a growing tech company in Antwerp, Belgium. We design and sell CMOS image sensors for all sorts of medium- and high-end markets. We're looking for an additional software engineer ri

I've used PostGIS in the past and what I can say is that I was pretty impressed with its performance. If you want to render the geometry, you could use geoserver... but make sure you have the RAM available.

Actually it is what I remember from most girls in high school (late nineties): they want to work "with people instead of machines". It's a stigma that existed then in girls' minds and presumably still does, at least wher

Cost does not equal value. One could rather say the cost of mining bitcoins is analogous to... the cost of mining gold, not the industrial value it represents.

I'm not sure about that minimum, but I do know noise (dark current signal non-uniformity for those in the know) increases considerably with temperature. So yes it matters.

Instinctively I reel the same way, but if you think it through, it's equivalent to complaining about all the ink and paper and cotton and metal being "wasted" on bills and coins.
