How many major protests have happened in Iran over the past ten years? That's actually a serious question. I remember big ones in 2019. Smaller ones since in the time before the current uprising. Some before 2019 as well. There's

It's a little surprising Google hasn't done this already. A small (maybe inline, maybe floating) popup that gives you a little grid. Would autosave to Sheets. That would be perfect. Anyways, that's a great idea you have. I ne

That's a brilliant & simple idea. I love it. Makes me wonder if anyone's made a small screen spreadsheet? Seems like that would be the obvious next step. Something like a default of 3x4 or 4x4 cells. Would have most of the bas

Part of their retention playbook. I needed Illustrator for a short term project. Only needed it for less than a month so paid for a 30 day term . Almost forgot about it but went to cancel it on the last day. They gave me a month for free au

Twitter's algorithm isn't front and center as long as you're set to "latest tweets". It's reduced to the sidebar where it guesses (badly) what trends I'll be interested in. On mobile, I don't even see

I agree with you. I’m currently in the process of developing a app aimed partially at an educator / student crowd, and partially at a general audience of people who are obsessed with words & dictionaries. My app is almost the poste

B&H are great. I've had good luck with them. My main supplier these days is Best Buy. No 3rd party sellers. Never heard of any scam or inauthentic products from them. They ship from the local store or warehouse so I get things fast

I don't know that they are exceptions. The wikis for moderately popular but kinda niche games are often in good shape. For example, wikis for The Long Dark and the Kingdom series are two I've used in the recent past. Detailed info

I was responding to your mention of Chromebooks and how expensive you thought they would be to fix. And also because I thought it was interesting that these two very cheap gadgets were easily fixable. I guess since the main customers for th

My niece broke the screen on her dirt cheap Chromebook. A Samsung Chromebook 3. I bought her a new screen for about $30 and was able to replace it myself in about 5 minutes after watching a short Youtube howto. The Lenovo Chromebook 3 seems

Thanks for the lists. I was genuinely curious about the exes. Nice to know where they originate. Interesting that over half of them have titles in Cyrillic. I guess not so many English language textbooks (with included CDs) have been upload

There's probably a list somewhere on the internet but I've never seen one. When I went monitor shopping six months ago, I used the Macrumors forum heavily. There are long threads on the forum for monitors which didn't work we

Why does it bother you? Part of the appeal of the streaming services is the long tail. That shows produced / funded by the service will remain indefinitely. That's become one of the expectations. When expectations are broken, peop

Has anyone ever stumbled across an executable on LibGen? The article mentioned finding them but I've never seen one. I agree with the other comments that LibGen shouldn't purge the larger books. But, in terms of mirrors, it would

Maybe I'm the only one, but I remapped Cmd to Ctrl. After a lifetime of Windows and Linux using Ctrl as the main modifier key, this made things much easier for me. Having it be pinkie based has never been an issue. At least not for me.

Some how-stuff-is-made videos do get wide play despite the algorithmic silos. The ones that do best are the ones that are rather peaceful & mesmerizing. That grabs the people interested in the technical aspects, the people who get ASMR

Good question. I don't know the answer. I think the 2014s supported AZW3 so you might want to try that as your output format from Calibre. I say that because I've never seen any unavailable fonts in an epub > azw3 conversion.

You can. It's slightly more involved than the Kindle DRM stripping, but it's not bad. I was able to do it and I don't even own a Kobo. I found a book I wanted that was for sale on the Kobo store but not offered by Amazon. For

It's been a big feature in the later games. But it's been there since the start. Civ 1 had a simple mechanism where highly industrialized cities would create polluted tiles. You could clean up the polluted tiles with settlers. But

True, but it's funny how all these hijinks seemed so cool in the books. Jacking in while in a grimy Tokyo nightclub as your friend, the assassin with razorblades, watches your back. But in reality, it's just all so pathetic. Somet

To bring it back to the Atari 800, I remember magazines like Compute and Antic having breathless headlines about how Atari and Commodore played some big part in making the movie. As the new owner of an 800 in 1982, I was quite excited by th

The c100 / c101 Asus Flip is my favorite laptop form factor. Durable, extremely lightweight, loved the keyboard. Felt great in the hands. And inexpensive enough to make theft a non-worry. I wish Asus (or someone) would still make them.

Sometimes these things come from the bottom up. In some countries, a small number of violent people set the spark and the flames start. The elite do have far more power than the rest of us, but sometimes they're also caught up in a wav
