I'd argue this is an essential purchase if you live in storm country. The loud "beep beep beep" of the weather radio has become part of the usual sounds of spring for me. Glad you made it out of the tornado intact. I'm i

Keyboard under System Settings should give you options for changing all the modifier keys. I've got Caps Lock modified to be Escape on mine. Though the jokes on me as I just hit ESC all the time and forget about my remapped Caps. There

MacOS makes it easy to remap modifier keys. Command can be mapped to Control, with Control put elsewhere. I mention this because this review (and many like it) mention the mental disconnect when frequently switching between Macs and Windows

I've finished Exapunks. Should go back and finish TIS-100. One thing I both love & hate about Zachtronics is the Histogram of Doom that appears at the end of each problem. There's no better feeling than ending up in the top ra

That's a good list. Would be interesting if they followed in the footsteps of Pine (Pinephone, Pine64, Pine book) but with higher quality products. Would imagine Fairphone would be an inspiration as well. If I had to pick any one of th

That was quite nice. Would love to see a full game in this environment one day, but I'm also happy this particular one was short. Perfect length for showing off this team's talents. It's funny how many of us distrusted the AI

Here's something purely anecdotal: recently stayed in a motel in very rural Arkansas. In the morning, I noticed a Chevy Bolt (or similar) plugged in with an extension cord. Asked the clerk about it. She said it was a relatively rare si

There is one raw ingredient in Skyrim which will kill the player. But it can't be found in the wild. It's given to you for a Dark Brotherhood quest. But you don't have to use it in the quest. Can keep it for later use.

I once worked at a similar office park. A pair of geese chased secretaries and CEOs alike. Very egalitarian. No one was spared. All ran to their cars in fear. But there was one day when they met their match. Another pair of geese appeared l

I think TV static is like floppy icons in UIs. It's been referenced enough as a no-signal indicator, as well as a deeply rooted cultural thing, that even Gen Z will recognize it. It's funny because they'll recognize it as a c

Install a Linux container. Can do this via Settings > Advanced > Developers > "Linux Development Environment". By default, you'll get Debian. You can then do your usual apt install to get Wine. Or, you can enable Fla

I agree with your wish for more DRM-free options. I don't know why a hard copy isn't an option for you. If it's just because you lack the space, then one option would be to order the physical book. Give it away. And download

Just curious if it repeatedly crashed your Kindle? My Kindle (Oasis 2nd gen) was very unhappy with the "redacted" black bars. When a page was full of them, the Kindle just gave up.

I've had good luck with Lulu. My experience was short-runs. I sometimes like to make custom notebooks for myself and friends. But the quality was good. Lulu will print spiral fold flat editions. Might come in handy for a cookbook. I&#x

Absolutely nothing. I already use alternative services for Android contacts. I just like iMessage and wish it was available on non-Apple hardware. Would be immensely more convenient.

Speaking as an Apple customer, there are many times I wish iMessage was more open. My partner and some friends prefer Android. Would be great to use Messages with them. Plus, I'd love to have Messages on whatever desktop I'm using

All I was doing in my comment was describing how an overdose of eschatology as a child can warp how one views the future. I never said I didn't care.

Not at all. But I think one's feelings on global warming & nukes can be influenced by previous exposure to eschatology. I was raised in American evangelicalism which puts a heavy emphasis on the end of the world stuff. I left the c

Best value is always an ebay Thinkpad. But if you insist on buying new, the Lenovo Ideapad 3 Chromebook is $100 and often discounted down to $80. It's a 4GB/64GB eMMC/Gemini Lake n4020 with a TN screen. But it does have a goo
