To understand the interest, you need to understand the moving parts: Logstash is a sort of pipeline for data you want to log: you can define multiple inputs, transform/filter the data, and then define multiple outputs. Example 1: read

Looks interesting. Is this anything more than an internal research project? From the second slide: "The following is intended to provide some insight into a line of research in Oracle Labs."

Thanks for the info! Makes sense. Is this performance you're expecting in the long-term, or will this be tuned at some point?

I've been watching the great progress since 1.4, but I continue to be disappointed by the overall performance, makes me wonder if I'm not groking something. Here's a gist of a simple ruby script to insert 1000 trivial docs in

I picked up the _Programming Elixir_ book a few weeks ago, and it had a solid overview on OTP. Definitely not a deep, but enough to get you started.

I disagree. I think it is great to see something like this, and I think it reflects the Django community in general. I'm glad to see it being published!

Yeah, I agree. A good case-in-point is the new button groups. Here is 2.3.2: http://getbootstrap.com/2.3.2/components.html#buttonGroups And here are groups in 3: http://getbootstrap.com/components/

+1 on the tutorials: came to comment just on that. The layout is solid, and the content is paced well.

I don't think the article is knocking JS, it is knocking the over/miss use of JS on the client side. So, yes, any other language would have the same problem, but to take this as another "JS suckzzz" article misses the po

I don't think you can achieve #1 without a bit of #2 and #3. Milage varies depending on what you're programming, but I think people are too quick to dismiss CS.

Yes, but that's like saying Perl got there first before Python or Ruby. GorillaScript, CoffeeScript, TypeScript, etc. all basically use Javascript as a platform, and there should be room for all of them in the long run. (Or, at least r

I agree it is a bit self-promoting, but I think the concept itself, as-is, without technical details, is worthy of a HN discussion.

This can't be right: 1.5 was just released in February. It takes at least 1 year between Django releases, right? Right!? (He said, sarcastically.) Seriously, it is GREAT to see the framework continue to roll forward.

In general, my take is: 'bout time. Even if this particular project doesn't make it into django.contrib, it is nice to see movement in this area.

I think the confusion is the difference between a box and a container: I grok that I would use a dockerfile to configure a container, and I would use chef/puppet to configure a box. But, _why_ can't I use chef/puppet to configure a containe

Looks cool! One little nitpick: "Vim to your Emacs"... Er, maybe Vim to your Eclipse. I don't know if I'd put Emacs in the same camp as Firefox or (heaven forbid) Outlook. Also, here's the manual: http://jonas.nitro.dk/tig/manual.html

If the only issue is IE 6, 7 and 8 marketshare, then the question becomes: how long will IE8 have a sizable portion of the market. Here's a graph of the browser market over the last 3 years (typical disclaimer about lies, damn lies and stat

I'm just giving honest feedback on the product: I think you're limiting the scope of the product by using words that offend some people. Given the upvotes, I don't think I'm alone.
