I guess this would be the expected, though boring, answer -- "incorrect" benching (i.e. clear the cache first).

I'm surprised no one has chimed in on how the program is "processing" 40GB of instructions with only 800 MB/s * 10s of disk read. If I had to hazard a guess, there's some kind of smart caching going on at the OS lev

That means the electric cost of the mining rig is essentially 1/3 "subsidized".

More clarity: 500 TWh/yr is ~57 GW on average. From a quick google, it seems that peak electricity usage is 60-80 GW, which makes the 80 GW milestone much more interesting.

Something something no-cloning theorem prevents this (/s, since of course, we could 'teleport' the ships's quantum state onto the 'new' ship (/s)).

I didn't realize that Kerr was still alive and well! Similar to the feeling when I discovered that David Deutsch was on Twitter. Really incredible when names in physics textbooks are still around.

I have both. I drive both depending on context of my day and where I want to work. If I were interested in this, and the 4090 were faster, I'd just ssh into that machine from my Mac if I wanted to use my Mac -- and presumably, vice ver

Yeah, I'd also be curious why they can't simply send it over to a company which "just so happened" to buy anonymous data, before Nebula "happened" to process your deletion request.

I see the lowball "base" model as a way to advertise the middle models, which is a common strategy. That being said, from what I gather, 8GB RAM on MacOS performs just fine except for truly professional users. Also keep in mind th

Consider AMD Epyc 7742 vs an A100 -- 225W vs 400W (according to some TDP numbers). That's 1.8x-2.0x increase in energy, but something like 10x-100x more integer operations per second (depending on size of integers, depending on if you

To be fair, this makes sense: making a smart decision is "harder" than scaling a simple calculation out to a bunch of workers.
