This is good idea. Will investigate how to pipe data and display a progress bar at the same time.

Hi HN, This is a command line tool I’ve been working on for rendering various types of content in the terminal. The core functionality is syntax highlighting with line numbers and indent guides. It can render Markdown (commonmark), and does

It is crazy, I agree. But you have to keep in mind how old this protocol is. Layers and layers of cruft which you can trace back to before the computing era. Here is Rich running on a Teletype Model 33, circa 1963. And it works (kinda). ht

That is not the case. The code within that block will not be in the namespace if that file is imported. Contrary to your example which will have the main function in the module namespace.

Sounds like you only read the title. The OP is planning on living off his savings for a while. I'm sure he would love for sponsorship to make his work self-sustaining, but he would settle for paying a few bills.

I'm sure its not. But this is one of the few (possibly only) things I'm actually good at. And it's not entirely altruistic, I think this work will benefit me financially in the future.

Getting paid to develop open source. What’s not to like? Great in theory, but projects will only generate income if they are a dependency of the subscribers.

It would be the other way around. Basically anything that Rich can print can be used in Textual. Have a look at the render method in the examples, which returns a Rich object.

I'm the author of Rich, a Python library for fancy formatting in the terminal. Textual is a framework I'm building around Rich for creating terminal applications. It's powered by async and borrows a number of techniques from

Tweet author here. Please don’t @ me. I was only half serious. The context was re Python libraries. I increase the major version when I revise the API, even if it’s single method. To my mind, that is a failure on my part to come up with the
