My guess is that 10x indicates that they've saturated the bandwidth of the PCIe interface.

If electricity were free, you'd have a great point. TCO is something that needs to be considered, and Intel's chips are very competitive.

At that point, the power controller would be as complex as your application processor, and you'd be trying to figure out how to power gate some of its features.

I think the point that the OP is missing is that Silicon manufacturing is extremely complex, requiring 1000's of steps, tons of water and electricity, and extremely pure materials. That's not something you can fit in a lab, let a

One thing that seems to be glossed over in his argument is the impending move to 450mm wafer technology. That should allow Intel and others to continue shrinking at reasonable cost.

Great tutorial. There's a mistake in "Getting things done" -> Moving within the Screen. It lists ^U and ^D as moving a full screen, which is not true. Those only move half a screen. You correct this a few line later...

If there's lower resistance, you can use smaller, less leaky transistors, so it'd also help in that respect.

It is irritating to hear claims that something can be done which has never been done. As evidenced by every project I've ever worked on, people have a very poor idea of how much work it takes to accomplish a task. There are very like

It means that a connection to the real world is not needed for mathematics to exist. Another way of saying "predicated in" would be to say "based in" or "required by."

Having read just to that point in the book, it seems this information is a bit old. Modern x86 processors have microcode ROMs on die, so the performance penalty is near zero.
