I think this is fine. If you use a 3rd party repository, you can almost expect it to fail. If you rely on repositories so heavily, run Apt Cacher or mirror them on s3 or the like, its pretty simple. This is a pretty common practice in any

Effectively yes. Basically, they own the TLD and can sell any domains under that. So, if you want thechthrowaway.blog, you've got to pay them to purchase it. In reality, you will probably purchase this from godaddy or similar, but ulti

So do you encourage people to add tests to their wrapper cookbooks when they consume these? I read the philosophy and readme docs, and I kindof get what your doing with attribute precedence, and how these cookbooks are sane defaults with ov

So logstash V5, is that a rewrite in go? I say this because it seems all their other tooling is now written in go, and also, logstash agent and server are very resource intensive in jruby. If theres a v5 alpha, which isnt on github, is it

Real question: Do you need to build a micro service SOA right now? http://martinfowler.com/bliki/MonolithFirst.html Distributed systems are hard, and building a microservice SOA that is functional is damn hard. I feel

The chef code that deploys all the apps is pretty old skool, copy pasta'd from opensource cookbooks in alot of places, will never pass food critic or rubocop, and has no tests. I wouldn't really want to run that code on anything.

This raises some interesting points, and I agree in part. I think docker makes sense in some cases, single, compiled binaries that adhere to 12 factor app standards, I'm all for putting in a docker container. I would then run them on a

I would say it is, and I'm really excited about it. After seeing a demo of it at chef community summit London, I am currently moving all of my serverspec tests to InSpec. InSpec has these additional features over serverspec: - Transpor
