I think mostly everyone’s mental health issues go untreated. High achievers and otherwise, maybe for different reasons in different cases. Even people whose mental health issues cause them obvious distress often don’t get treatment.

Probably not, national economies would just have to function more independently. The only way I can see how trans-oceanic trade results in better health and mortality outcomes is that it makes the various world superpowers more dependent on

What do you think it would cost to get a 750 square foot home built super quality in old style? I don't mean fireplaces from italy, I just mean stuff like real brick masonry, super well insulated, slate roof, hardwood floors, a real fi

That's because all that technological advancement went into making houses cheaper not better. Add to that the financialization of everything but especially housing over the last half a century (things that are the same as each other

I use KeePassXC on my Mac and KeePassium on my iPhone and it’s so great. And it’s free. It’s some of the best free software I’ve ever used.

I fully agree, you said it well. It can be very hard to find the right therapist, and it’s not like going to the doctor. Anyone who says that it’s like that doesn’t know what they’re talking about. It’s a longer and less straightforward pro

The reason people attend therapy is to answer exactly that question. And if you really want answers and you find the right therapist/psychologist, you will probably find answers.

Very well said. It’s part of life to reorganize your values, you can’t accelerate it to avoid regret.

What company do you work for (if you don’t mind being asked)? I’m curious about audit remediation, it sounds like a field I might be interested in. I’m currently in an SRE role.

I'm curious to know how different the work feels on your new systems/kernel team than when you were working on the full stack REST stuff. Of course, the subject matter is different, but does the work feel different? Like more ri

They can go live in the country. That’s part of what’s good about Urbanism - it lets the city become a real city, and it reduces or reverses sprawl, which leaves more of the rural areas undeveloped. The city should be city, and the country

The more I read of this proposal the more I like it. It feels realistic. I feel like it properly addresses the reasons people oppose development and offers a practical way out of the bind.

I think a true shift towards Urbanism in our cities may be only possible if there's a whole lot of money in it for somebody with political leverage. But who? I'm not sure. Real estate developers? They're already making money

Yes you absolutely do earn returns on money that isn’t doing anything. If I buy a share of Apple and the share price goes up, I’ve just made a return on money that isn’t doing anything. The money I spent on that share didn’t enable any real

This possible outcome has occurred to me before, but it's hard to imagine a breaking of society which doesn't include the hunting-down of at least some of the rich. I don't know how they could truly escape the downfall.
