Yes, some consumers are bad too. You didn’t engage with my point though. Have you had generally good experiences trying to resolve disputes with merchants directly as a consumer?

> Instead the consumer should contact the merchant directly to resolve the dispute. Hahaha. Have you tried this recently? I had a company ship us defective baby food with broken seals. They said they couldn’t refund but they were happy t

The maintainer owes you nothing. One of the points of open source is that if you need something, you have the source. Fork.

The point is that there are lots of humans who speak these languages and use tech. They just don’t use Wikipedia so getting a good translation corpus going was harder.

It is quite common. Take this screenshot of Youtube: https://imgur.com/a/nxGdcWj The comments total at the top and each of the thread counts need to be kept in sync with their corresponding inline list representations.

The problem isn’t that the internet is too big. It’s that Google and the internet grew apart from each other. Some old sites never upgraded to https or other technical demands Google made of them. Google chose to stop indexing these sites t

Yeah this. The classic is unread state in a mail app. Unread state is usually displayed both as bold state per message in a message list, and as a count in the folder list. These need to stay in sync as the user reads mail (and sometimes ma

How do changes to that cache get displayed? Your cache emits events that each UI element has to listen to? Congrats you’re using redux! (It would perhaps be more accurate to say that React folks had to reinvent these patterns, but the probl

This is true until your customers complain that your UI is super slow. You realize they’re trying to use your app from a cell phone with poor service. So you have the genius idea to add optimistic updates in JS. Now you have all the problem

The boring answer is probably something along the lines of “copilot was trained by employees of OpenAI who aren’t technically MS employees”. When I worked at MS you had to jump through all sorts of hoops to get access to code from other org

The thing I like about Copilot is that it breaks the “static friction” I have when I’m sitting down to work on my side project. It makes me more likely to get started. That said, launching a dev tool without Orgs integration seems dumb. I w

It’s similar to how whiteboarding is an inaccurate but useful model of coding ability. I’ve had candidates who could answer in general detail how they would implement an algorithm, but struggle to produce working code. The purpose of these

1) Most software isn’t purely a collection of executable code. Usually there’s some configuration stored somewhere. (Files, registry, whatever.) Containerization ensures that we have one self-executing file that contains all of that state.

There’s one of these stories every year at WWDC when Apple PMs take top apps and turn them into OS features. “Sherlocked” is a phrase for a reason. https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/4/18651190/apple-ios-13-

It’s not whattaboutism if they’re linked. The two actions are by belligerents in the same conflict. EDIT: I’m also calling it whattaboutism because I don’t think folks are actually arguing that other nations should have entered the Iraq war

So much whattaboutism in this thread. We are at war. Seizing property of the other belligerents is a very normal thing to do in a war. Russia is currently seizing assets from American companies who leave the country. Russia is currently bom
