Software gets worse as it gets bigger. The classic measure is 15 or so bugs per 1000 lines of code. Most software companies have career ladders that reward building broad abstractions that affect most of the product / company. So peopl

I use Adblock and pirate things, but I’m under no illusions about what that represents. You don’t have to modify your credit card to pay it in advance. What counts as “obligation” to you? You can also generally walk out of a restaurant with

I’d file that under pirating. I don’t judge folks for pirating, but I think it’s a little rich to be like “why does anyone pay for things they could steal”.

Apple. They blocked an email client for adult content. Y'know, the place where you have a spam folder full of unsolicited offers of sex and drugs. sigh

Lol by this reasoning any possible moderation decision is consistent with freedom of speech. Dude came in guns blazing on team “any legal speech will be allowed” and is at this point banning all references to perfectly legal competitors.

I thought the principle of DevOps was “the person who wrote a service should be required to perform the ops duties for it” to force people to learn why these behaviors are necessary.

Google has a chatgpt-like model internally. The moment someone figures out the UI paradigm they’ll just copy it.

Lol of course they could. Netflix does. But like you said market rate includes the cost of interviewing, which is usually enough to deter 80% of folks so why would you overpay.

Brands help consumers make reliable purchasing decisions. Amazon fucks this up all the time by trying to homogenize products and force you to discriminate on ad placement and price. Look at any category of consumer packaged goods on Amazon.

That’s not how it works. Meta (like many large employers) issues refresh stock grants yearly. So everyone’s current comp is down.

Combo of Apple’s insistence on Metal and biz model mismatch. You can either make gambling for children or have apple throw pity money at you. No one is buying $70 apps.
