What are folks thoughts on CurLang these days? Anyone using it for serious configuration yet? https://cuelang.org/ It’s designed by the BCL/GCL author as a replacement (Jsonnet is apparently a copy of BCL/GCL)

There seem to be only two locations in Europe where software engineering pays reasonable money: London, and Zurich. See https://www.itjobswatch.co.uk to get an idea of salaries. London has lots of downsides, but you can expect a

There are companies that compensate you for all on call hours. Being paid only if you are paged is not appropriate compensation for interrupting your personal life: having your laptop, reliable internet, cellular coverage, being available o

What is the on-call compensation? Last I knew it was 33.3% time credited for on call hours with 30 minute response requirement and 66.6% time credited for on call hours with 5 minute response time. And it could be taken as additional holida

Can you elaborate on this? Do you mean that amazon is tending towards strong or externalizable consistency now? I’ve always noticed AWS products tend towards eventual consistency, and Google Cloud offerings are almost all strongly consisten

Ahh a topic for me! I spent WAY too many hours looking at all the backpacks recently. If you use public transit or travel, I highly recommend the Timbuk2 Never Check Backpack. I had my previous Timbuk2 for over 10 years and it was terrific.

Helm is problematic in my view. To new Kubernetes users, Helm appears to be the "Official" package manager, and the "right way to do it". It's not. Many helm charts are out of date, have subtle bugs, and are not act

I think it’s incredibly important that a top priority be to put a very clear banner on the OpenCensus and OpenTracing pages explaining that they are becoming OpenTelemetry.

That’s $30,000 a year. Well less than 1/4 the annual salary of an engineer in any major metro. Is the reduction in employee satisfaction really worth it? Reduction of snacks and office perks is a classic canary in the coal mine for tho

Can you elaborate? I know Amazon has this extremely unequal vesting schedule. Are they now doing yearly comp targets and bringing you up to that target with cash?

Can you share more? I am aware that this comp exists (just see levels.fyi) but haven’t found it for Kubernetes focused roles yet. Are you talking to FAANG’s? Second tiers like Uber, Square, etc? Other?
