Building anonymity into a tool is not trivial. Doing it right is very hard . Doing it right also has significant drawbacks in terms of performance for people who don't need anonyminity. Tor is a great, well studied and well supported

Hey! IPFS Dev here. The cid stuff has been implemented and initial support for it is being landed in our 0.4.5 release (which will be soon, hopefully release candidate within a week). With that and IPLD, you can craft arbitrary objects in J

IPFS team member here: If the URLs are cryptic, you can use dns to make them look nicer. Take a look at the TXT record for ipfs.io, as well as the TXT record for _dnslink.ipld.io Both of those websites are hosted through ipfs and have A (or

Adding in a good way to do signed packages and repos is very high priority for us. If you have ideas on that, i'd love to discuss things here: https://github.com/whyrusleeping/gx/issues/47 Thanks!

ipfs dev here! This is indeed possible, you will be able to listen on announcements (provider messages) of hashes that are near your nodes peerID within the kademlia metric space. To get a complete picture of all hashes on the network, you

Yeah, you can definitely force the gateways to cache content for you. Just make sure not to rely on that for keeping things available, they run a garbage collection every hour or so to clear up disk space.

The way our network currently bootstraps is to dial a set of peers that are hardcoded into the default config file. We also have mdns for finding peers that are on your LAN without the need for any hard coded addresses.

ipfs currently uses what we call a 'multihash' where every hash value is tagged with the hash function used to generate it. As of now, the default hash function is sha256, and if I recall correctly, the chances of a world ending a

We have IPNS, which allows you to have a mutable pointer to immutable content in ipfs. On top of that, you can put your IPNS name (which is still a longish ugly hash) into a DNS record to hide everything away (although youre still depending

All content is self hosted until another party is interested enough to pull it locally. While spam will still be something that needs to be dealt with, spammers will be using their own disk space and bandwidth, and not that of other users.

as dylankpowers says here, you only host content on your node that you choose to by default. We will have a feature later on that will allow the network to adapt to what objects are the most popular and rehost them automatically, but this p
