$9B?! Path to everything being private. Don't they want to also break up NOAA and National Weather to make them basically just data services? Private companies would then be the ones to publish it. Want to know the weather? Subscribe.

Only a smartphone would have this capability so presumably they also have onboard gps. It would be trivial to make something that automatically sends the GPS coords via text. This should be a built-in function for phones.

Maybe there legit needs to be a third option or something. The "i dont agree with you, but this is a reasoned comment" I think reddit got rid of awards? That was actually a cool indicator of substance/quality -- someone used

Here’s the thing. For all the movies that have tired tropes and blatant literalism, there’s a new movie watcher that hasn’t experienced it before. They have the same right to watching a new movie with a tired trop — because to them, it’s n

It's interesting because it's a term that emerged due to a legal allowance (renovation+eviction: allowance to evict a tenant when major renovations to a building have to be done). What other legal-derived portmanteaus are there? T

I’m really surprised the post office didn’t do more of a job to frame it as the “Fujitsu Scandal”. They could have made the public think it was a foreign Japanese issue

That’s why the “died by suicide” language can be problematic. These people were driven by several factors and they were left with no choice.

Isn’t it a similar case in the USA where intoxication breath test computers are similarly obscured from scrutiny? People have argued that they have a right to “face their accuser” and see the source code only to have that request denied. So

It's fucking nuts because it's worse than that too. Fujitsu falsely claimed that they couldn't remotely modify data. They used technical info to obfuscate things for the accused and the judges.

Arguably, it happens today on a modern iPhone capacitive screen. I've had issues where the UI performs a "bait and switch" and swaps a target that I inadvertently press. ios26 is worse because of some lag at certain times.
