I am actually familiar with Lisp and was wondering what to do to bring people over, not try it myself. I doubt the parentheses is a huge problem, because like you said, it can be trivially automated using your favorite tool. I think what th

Ha, this actually happened to me just yesterday believe it or not. :D I looked up something and turns out it's 21 years old me who asked it in Stackoverflow four years ago.

Can you elaborate further on the efforts needed to close up the mismatch? Perhaps something concrete to work on today? ;)

Hum, interesting. I guess I always thought it was his because he actually developed very similar ideas in his essay "In Praise of Idleness"[1]. [1] http://www.zpub.com/notes/idle.html

Well in this case are you really procrastinating? Clearly your brain is making relatively solid decisions, considering how your career is moving (upward). In this situation I'd like to recall Bertrand Russel's great dictum: "

There is a timeless quote by _why (of Ruby fame) that goes something like this: "You need to create, because otherwise you are defined by your taste in things." (my terrible paraphrasing).

Another thing that would be interesting to learn more about is their Front end structure. From what I can gather they keep things extremely simple (jQuery, mostly) and make extensive use of pjax and server generated javascript that gets eva

I highly doubt they think that way when qualifying numbers for PR purposes. Regardless of how they connected to Facebook it is still Facebook Inc and it is still hell of a number.

Yep, I had the same problem multiple times, all by accident. However chances of this (Ask HN) making it to a GitHub employee are slim. Let's hope for the best. Perhaps try Twitter next?

Honestly for this one I do not remember since it was two years ago, but I'd start over at http://arxiv.org/ , which is a treasure. Granted most are research papers, but even those will link to overview papers, of which

Good write up. Another excellent resource straight out of the UC Berkeley Database Group that I keep close by is "Architecture of a Database System"[1] by three researchers in the field. It is very readable. [1] http://

I was actually curious about parent's friend's idea. To be fair all these apps haven't yet figured out the whole market, so perhaps instead of genius we can call them 'implementable'.

Is your application just a jar? In the yes case your conclusion is correct. Throw in a database, a cache server, couple of versioned libraries your jar file needs, and more developers, and suddenly a reproducible image with all this package
