Wasm is used in a lot of nooks and crannies, apart from games, Figma already uses it in the core and Wasm-GC has just started to become viable so we will se a lot of server-side languages get better web support. Using Wasm as an end-all sys

They are very well on their way to becoming the "never interact with Oracle" of the internet giants. As far as I can see they are still living a bit off the "do no evil" of ages ago and latent animosity towards Microsoft

Feels like they're trying to make something alike PostgREST (and sell it as a service), ie being able to skip backend coding and this manages brokering and permissions for frontends that does most of the job anyhow.

The problem is that we have a huge swathe of "mechanics" that basically don't know much more than how to open a paintcan and paint a pig despite promising to deliver finely tuned supercars with their magic car making machine.

I do get the joke but it's a tad misplaced here. Language developers really do struggle with debugging our data-structures since they are often both circular and complex compared to many other applications, I wrote yet-another-UI tool

Huh? Windows itself might have had it's heyday but MS is solidly at #2 for clouds only behind AWS with enterprise Windows shops that will be hard pressed to not use MS options if they go to the cloud (Google really has continued to fum

It's not entirely horrible, parsing DER dynamically enough to handle interpreting most common certificates can be done in some 200-300 lines of C#, so I'd take that any day over XML. The main problem is that to work with the data

Yes and no, the JSON handling of things like binary data (hashes) and big-ints leaves a bit to be desired (sure we can use base64 encoding). Asn.1 isn't great by any extent but for this JSON really isn't much better apart from bet

I wrote an Asn.1 decoder and since it contains type/size info you can often read a subset and handle the rest as opaque data objects if you need round-tripping, this is required as there can be plenty of data that is unknown to older c

As someone that had the dis-pleasure to work with Asn.1 data (yes, certificates) I fully symphatise with anguish you've gone through (that 6months of Ansible HR comments cracked me up also :D ).

I haven't had the "pleasure" to work with stored procedures, etc but from conversations the main takeaways seems to be: 1: cooperation, nowadays database instances are cheaper and with Docker we can spin them up but having the

Imho maintainers should just keep a set of pre-made header-files for a Windows compiler, a huge portion the work configure does is because we historically had: - Bad compilers (that lacked stdlib features) - Lacked package managers (so we n

Yep, but there was another post mentioning half a million lines of C++ code so far. While the C++ interop in Swift seems sane with Clang being embedded I wonder how much time/energy they will have to actually move significant parts if
