As the author notes, taking the time to design anything (including a video game) yields better results than a simple combination of concepts. His example of sounds while displaying graphics shows that even if graphics are decomposable, soun

I appreciate the artistic license of saying the "AIs" are doing this, but this isn't an AI issue at all. This is a particular single purpose program "Smile!" which is producing results by combining pictures together

Seems to be a useful tool based on a research project, but very little example of what it expects for input. I tried it with some HTML entity notation, and didn't see the letters represented, but was disappointed. Maybe my use case did

They seem to be sharpening the terms of service, letting go of more general claims and using more precise language. Does anyone know if doing this actually helps them enforce the rights once you've agreed to them? I've heard that

This is pretty cool. I expect that even if the code is open source, that the real value is in the dataset used. Does anyone know the licensing information ?

I find it interesting that this is published on a University of Massachusetts website rather than an MIT website. I also think a hefty dose of this paper could apply to grad school in most fields at many top schools.

I was hoping that the author would address the issues with plain text and Unicode. He didn't even act like there are portability issues when you want to save in Unicode, but the editor may or may not support it.

Iverson was a great man. His specialized notation that was the undercarriage of APL changed many people's view of programming because he forced a more mathematical and consistent use of array notation, far beyond the simple subroutine

The page referenced says that POTATOES implements a broad range of operating system concepts and features, e.g. multitasking, paging, an extensive I/O subsystem as well as a custom file system, and runs on x86 hardware.

This is a good initial view of a github project, with a few videos. The issue for AGI in my mind is model building, and this seems to be the focus of this blog entry.

I seem to recall there is an issue with CFL bulbs that has to do with ambient temperature. Recessed sockets get hotter, and shorten CFL life considerably.
