It has no choice but to read file data in chunks or exhaust memory. If you need to do n parallel searches what better arrangement do you propose?

> Search the data it’s already read in The kernel handles that. Your program works on the data that’s available while the pipe is filling up again. > If this is a recursive grep As you said. This is modeled best by multiple threads or

That’s not what I said. Everyone benefits from being able to read and write blocking code.

Blocking IO is usually good though. The entire Unix kernel is designed to manage complexity so you can write “if then else”. What is grep going to do while it waits for data?

But because finishing is hard (and not fun) it’s also easy to make up reasons for why you don’t finish things, without scrutinizing the underlying motivation. Sometimes i look back and say “I’m glad I moved on” but I think a lot of the time

Luckily for us C programmers do care and track down leaks aggressively.

The context of this discussion is that it would be better if pipes were faster. Then you would have more options.

You’re describing the outcome of one individual person. Money is just a tool for allocating resources. Saving 1 million of resources is a good thing.

And you go from having a well defined modular interface that’s flexible at runtime to a binary dependency.

No. If 20% of the state budget is then that amount is matched by an equal part local. So state + local education would be 40% of the state budget. education (property tax) dominates local spend. So yes we do tax and spend extraordinary amou

It does if you consider the part going to your county: “In 2022, the federal government spent … This is 13.6% of the total spent on elementary and secondary education in 2022. The remaining funding comes from state and local governments, wh

We must spend 30-50% of state budgets, monopolize children’s time, and expose them to violence and drugs so they can learn to socialize.
