An average IQ one std dev below other groups does not preclude the existence of individuals who have an IQ two std devs above an average member of the other group. https://antidem.wordpress.com/2015/03/31/glan

There's an even simpler explanation you get when you control for upbringing. But instead we prefer Occam's Butterknife to the razor. ( https://polymathblogger.wordpress.com/2010/11/09/occams-butt... )

Additionally there's more than one macro system out there to allow for infix math in Lisp... And for non-mathy things, in Clojure at least you're often using the threading macro -> or some variation of do/doto.

I remember DDG did side-by-side comparisons, but did they ever just query Google themselves and then do their own stuff on top? Anyway I'm not sure Google can be beaten at all by any particular newcomer, instead they might suffer death

As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, it's generally a lot simpler to redesign your workspace to take advantage of a simpler robot design than it is to get a bunch of more general robots like this that still aren't quite there any

I think the figure is closer to 100 W average across the day since the brain cannot exist in isolation of the body which needs ~2000 calories daily, but still, we're fairly efficient. We're built with advanced nanotechnology.

I find if you can get anyone to consider the tradeoffs of things they believe, that alone makes it possible and worthwhile to have a conversation. But those people are rare. (I think Rich Hickey noted this is even a problem in programming l

Nice. Did you just do it with strict calorie watching or some other diet? My friend lost his 100lbs in about 5-6 months on Keto, I've used it to lose 50lbs quickly myself, I think it makes the lower calorie count hard to notice... In h

Sounds like it's more for your daughter to experiment with cooking waffles on than to be of practical use? Kind of like an easy-bake-oven. Though if I had a kid I'd just encourage them to use the full appliances to start with. ;)

Giving and receiving the consumable gifts is the best I think, and I'd rather give/receive cash than gift cards as the extreme version of that. I generally wouldn't consider clothing a consumable item though -- I wear socks u

The demo and step by step blog is great but there is some really bad code in it... Is it idiomatic Wisp to keep the surface-level syntax of Clojure but none of the important bits like immutability and abstractions?

It doesn't seem like it would apply for all instances and combinations of food. For me, I've had a $90 porterhouse, which was truly delicious, and was indeed worth more (not less) than if I had gotten one $45 alternative cut to ea

Clojure has syntax for sets. I really like Clojure's data literals. I even think there's a Common Lisp package (or two) out there implementing reader macros to allow Clojure's syntax, but I don't think it's popular

Use of GC in Nim is up to you -- you can malloc/free as you please if you want and avoid it altogether. I'm not sure to what extent you can/can't make use of the standard library if you avoid GC, but even if you lessen y

Every now and again when I'm really figuratively toked up I go reread the history of Crash Bandicoot and also dream for more Lisp in the games industry (and every other industry). :) But I think Nim is slightly more realistic.
